Abstract

A portable exercise apparatus comprising a housing 10 with a means for attaching the housing to an item or the user which may be an adjustable strap 14 and a removable recoil component (12, fig 3) attached to a flexible elongate component 18, which also has a means of attaching to an item or user such as an adjustable strap 16, arranged so that the apparatus provides resistance to a user withdrawing the flexible elongate component from the apparatus; such resistance may be provided by a spiral coiled spring. The removable recoil component can be replaced by a recoil component that provides greater or lesser resistance.

Description

Personal Exercise Tablet' -PET This Invention relates to a portable, lightweight Personal Exercise Tablet, easily carried by the user that can be used whenever and wherever desired.
Exercise equipment, even some existing portable equipment, is relatively heavy, and generally requires a level of setting up and a dedicated area in which to utilize the equipment.
Either the setting up of the equipment or space to use the equipment, or indeed both, may be beyond the scope of the individual who requires the exercise. In addition much of the equipment available is aimed at the keep fit' or work out' community.
According to the present Invention there is provided a small,, pocket size, piece of equipment that can be used in any location. Also the equipment is designed to be suitable for the elderly, injury recovering or individuals who may require to be seated for extended periods of time such as office workers or passengers on various forms of transport. The extending element of the design can be changed to suit the users requirements from a light load to increased strength loads as required. Within the body of the Tablet' is housed an interchangeable constant load extending recoil unit or an extension recoil spiral spring unit such that when the Tablet' is extended away from a fixed position, either by extending a leg or arm, a level of effort is required by the user thus generating exercise. It will also be seen that a resistance effort can be adopted when returning the extended extension line. This simple accessible piece of equipment will help to foster an exercise habit in many individuals that otherwise would find it difficult to aspire to.
A specific embodiment of the Invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which -Figure 1 shows, in cutaway plan, a basic simple version of the exercise Tablet'.
Figure 2 shows a side elevation of the Tablet'.
Figure 3 shows a cutaway section of the basic simple version of the exercise Tablet' Figure 4 shows the Tablet' tail attached to a fixed object, in this instance a swivel chair, ready for use.
Figure 5 illustrates the Tablet' attached to the users foot slightly raised from the stationary position by the seated operator.
Figure 6 shows the Tablet' in it's further extended position with the operator's leg in the raised position.
Figure 7 illustrates the Tablet' attached to a swivel chair pedestal, for instance, and the tail of the extension line attached to the users leg. It should be noted that the Tablet' could in fact be an integral part of a swivel chair or other such device if desired.
Figure 8 shows the Tablet' attached to one of the operator's legs, in the fixed position, and the Tablet' extended away from the fixed leg by raising the other leg to the chosen elevation this being particularly helpful for individuals recovering from leg or spinal injuries when they are being supported in the standing position.
Figure 9 shows an example of attaching the Tablet' tail to a fixed object with the user holding the Tablet' in a hand whilst extending the tablet' away from the fixed position.
Figure 10 shows an external close up of the Tablet' and components.
Referring to the drawings the Tablet' comprises a housing 10 and a recoil component 12 in the form of an interchangeable unit, offering a range of load options depending on the requirement of the user, and an extension line 18. A further component of the Tablet' is adjustable straps 14, or similar device, to enable the user to attach the Tablet' to a foot, hand or object, for instance a chair, depending on the type of exercise being undertaken. The extension line will terminate in a tail' which will also have an adjustable facility 16 for attachment to a second object, for instance a leg, ann, stool or chair, such that when a leg, for instance, is being exercised whilst in the seated position any extension of the recoil line will entail a level of effort by the user whilst raising the leg to the horizontal position and in returning the leg to the floor. This then generates exercise with the ability to increase the amount of load required, to suit the individuals needs and ability, by the variable load interchangeable constant load recoil units available. Recoil units 12 will have a release system to enable a simple operation when changing to an alternative load recoil unit. A recess 20 in the rim of the Tablet' will enable current or future monitoring devices to be fitted. The compact dimensions of the 4Tablet', in it's simplest form as shown in Fig 1 will be such that it can easily be carried in a pocket or small handbag opening up the opportunity to perform either prescribed or recreational light exercise whenever and wherever required or desired.
