Abstract

A mitre saw has a saw portion supported above a table 6 by an arm 1. The saw is attached to the arm by means of connecting plates (3, 5, Figure 1) which are coupled by pins (4, Figure 2). The saw portion can be released or detached from the arm by pressing button 2, such that the saw can be used as a mitre saw supported on arm 1, or can be used independently as a reciprocating saw. The arm may swing to allow for different angled cuts (Figures 5 and 6) and the table may be rotated by releasing handle 8. The arm may be locked in positions at standard or commonly used angles. The table may have removable rubber legs for using the saw on easily damaged surfaces. The saw may have interchangeable blades.

Description

MULTI-PURPOSE MITRE SAW

Background

With the recession taking hold on the tool industry a way to keep tool costs down must be seriously considered. A combination of uses in a power tool cuts down necessity to purchase or carry two separate items.

Key features This tool has been developed by the combining of two existing technologies together, making a multi-purpose tool that can be used as a multi-angle cutting mitre saw. This tool will cut material on a 90°vertical plane, pivoting round a centre point to 45° in both directions, with pre-set locking positions at 900,450,300 and 22.5° in both directions, enabling fast accurate commonly used positions to be easily located.

This proposed product can also be set to any angle within this range by means of a locking handle. The support arm at the rear of the tool can be set on any angle from 90°vertical to 45° in a right hand direction, to enable further cutting angles to be achieved.

The reciprocating saw will be able to be detached from the base, by the operator, for independent use. It will have interchangeable blades facilitating the cutting of various materials or when a blade has been damaged or used to the end of its cutting life.

Removable legs with rubber feet are incorporated as part of the tool for use on easily damaged or marked surfaces (e.g.), wooden or laminate floors or work surfaces. They locate into the base fixing bosses.

Drawing introduction

For removal of the reciprocating saw the cable must first be unclipped from the base top pivot arm (1), then via a release button (2) on top of the saw. By pushing button (2) an internal locking plate (3) will move in a downward direction, disengaging from pins (4) which are on the base arm connecting plate (5). The saw will then be pulled directly away from connecting plate (5).

The saw can cut any angle up to 45° in either direction by use of a rotating turntable plate (6) and tightened by handle (8).

The saw can be tilted to cut from 90° vertical to 45° towards the right hand side (7).

The saw will cut on a horizontal level plane controlled and maintained by use of arm (1) pivoting on connecting plate (5) and pillar arm (7).
