Abstract
A display device 10 is disclosed, which is provided for application in a cabinet for electrical and electronic equipment and comprises a display unit 12, and display processing unit 14 being configured to receive a display unit orientation signal 16 and to generate a display mode selection signal 18 depending on the received display unit orientation signal, wherein the display mode selection signal 18 determines one of several modes of the display unit, wherein each one of the several operation modes comprises a different data set to be represented by the display unit. The display device may be rotatably mounted in a door of the cabinet such that the display unit can be pivoted between two orientations. The modes may be that of an information mode relevant to standard operation of the device equipped with the display unit, an advanced mode relevant for advanced operations of the device equipped with the display units and a service mode comprising information relevant for servicing the device equipped with the display unit.

Display device
TECHNICAL FIELD
This specification relates to a display device, particularly for application with cabinets for electrical and electronic devices such as power supplies, for example an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
BACKGROUND
Many electrical and electronic devices are equipped with display devices for showing information such as the status of an electrical or electronic device. It is also known in the art to automatically change the display mode of a display device depending on the orientation of an electronic device such as a tablet computer.
The Chinese utility model CN201425827Y discloses a rack type UPS rotation display device comprising a central processing unit, a LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) display unit, and a position direction sensing unit electrically connected to the central processing unit. The position direction sensing unit supplies a discriminating position signal to the central processing unit. This rack type UPS rotation display device can automatically adjust the characters of the LCD display unit when the UPS is switched between a horizontal display and a vertical display.
Racks and cabinets with rotatable displays are further known from the US patent applications US 2012/0307456 A1 and US 2008/0123284 A1, the Japanese patent application JP 2003029873 A, and the Chinese utility model CN 206807898 U.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
This specification describes a display device, which may be applied with cabinets for electrical and electronic devices such as power supplies, for example an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
According to an aspect of this specification, a display device provided for application in a cabinet for electrical and electronic equipment and comprising a display unit and display processing unit is disclosed. The display unit is configured to receive a display unit orientation signal and to generate a display mode selection signal depending on the received display unit orientation signal. The display mode selection signal determines one of several modes of the display unit, wherein each one of the several operation modes comprises a different data set to be represented by the display unit, and wherein the different data sets comprise different information for displaying. The technical effect obtained by this display device an automatic selection of information for displaying depending on the orientation of the display unit determined by the display unit orientation signal. For example, when the display device is installed in a door of a cabinet for electrical and electronic equipment, the information displayed by the display unit may be automatically selected depending on the status of the door. Partcularly, different information can be displayed when the cabinet’s door is open and closed.
The several modes may comprise an information mode, an advanced mode, and a service mode, and the display processing unit may select the following data set to be represented by the display unit depending on the display mode selection signal: in the information mode, a first data set comprising information being relevant for a standard operation of a device equipped with the display unit; in the advanced mode, a second data set comprising information being relevant for an advanced operation of the device equipped with the display unit; in the service mode, a third data set comprising information being relevant for servicing the device equipped with the display unit.
The first data set may comprise one or more of the following information: general information that is relevant to an end user for operating the device equipped with the display unit; a simplified version of a user manual of the device equipped with the display unit; standard operation alerts.
The second data set may comprise one or more of the following information: operational instructions of the device equipped with the display unit; informative notes for service personnel; a full version of a user manual of the device quipped with the display unit; interactive information on how to operate the device equipped with the display unit.
The third data set may comprise one or more of the foliowing information: service information for the device equipped with the display unit: service log information: status information of parts of the device equipped with the display unit.
The display processing unit may be configured to generate the display mode selection s signal to determine the information mode if the display unit orientation signal signals a first predetermined position of the display unit, the advanced mode if the display unit orientation signal signals a second predetermined position of the display unit, and the service mode if the display unit orientation signal signals second predetermined position of the display unit and the display processing unit receives an input signal, 10 wherein the first and second predetermined positions differ and correspond to a respective condition of the device equipped with the display unit.
The display device may further comprise a storage storing the different data sets to be represented by the display unit and being accessible by the display processing unit.
The display device may also comprise a network interface for accessing a network 15 storage storing the different data sets to be represented by the display unit by means of the display processing unit.
The display unit may be adjustable around an axis and an orientation sensing unit may be provided for generating the display unit orientation signal corresponding to the adjustment of the display unit. The orientation sensing unit may comprise one or more 20 of the following: a hall effect sensor; a geomagnetic field sensor; an accelerometer; a proximity sensor; a gyroscope: a switch.
A further aspect of this specification relates to a door for a cabinet for electrical and electronic equipment, wherein the door comprises a display device as disclosed herein, and the display unit of the display device is rotatably mounted at the door with 25 its rotation axis arranged parallel to or in the plane of the door such that the display unit can be pivoted between two orientations and display unit orientation signals are generated in both orientations. For example, when the door is closed the display unit can be pivoted in a first orientation, in which a first display unit orientation signal may be generated triggering the generation of a first display mode selection signal for a first operation mode such as for example the information mode, and when the door is opened the display unit can be pivoted in a second orientation to be visible, wherein in the second orientation a second display unit orientation signal may be generated triggering the generation of a second display mode selection signal for a second operation mode such as for example the advanced mode.
The display unit may be mounted in an opening in the door. Thus, the display unit does not require additional space besides the door when pivoted between the two orientations, which may be provided in the plane of the door.
The door may have a rectangular shape and the rotation axis may be arranged in parallel to a longitudinal side or a transverse side of the door.
The details of one or more embodiments are set forth in the accompanying drawings and the description below. Other features and advantages will be apparent from the description and drawings, and from the claims.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
In the following, functionally similar or identical elements may have the same reference numerals. Absolute values are shown below by way of example only and should not be construed as limiting.
Fig. 1 shows a cabinet 100 for electrical and electronic equipment such as computing devices (for example servers), power supply units (for example UPS) etc. The cabinet
100 comprises a lockable door 102 with an integrated display unit 12, for example a LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen.
In the shown configuration with the door 102 of the cabinet 100 closed, the display unit is in a first position and operated in an information mode, in which it shows a first s data set comprising information being relevant for a standard operation of the cabinet
100. The information comprised by the first data set may comprise general information relevant to an end user for operating the cabinet 100, for example information on how to open the cabinet’s door 102, how to change the operational status of the cabinet 100 such as temperature control within the cabinet 100 (if the cabinet 100 comprises io a climate control device). The first data set may also comprise a simplified version of a user manual of the cabinet 100, for example pictograms showing typical operational steps to be executed by an end user. Furthermore, the first data set may comprise standard operation alerts, for example power supply alerts such as power outages, temperature alerts such as exceeding temperature limits.
Fig. 2 shows the cabinet 100 with the door 102 opened to get access to the electrical and electronic equipment housed by the cabinet 100, particularly switches and controls
104 for controlling the operation of the equipment. The display unit 12 is pivot-mounted in an opening of the cabinet’s door 102 and rotatable around a vertical axis 106, which is arranged in parallel to a longitudinal side 110 of the door 102, and/or a horizontal 20 axis 108, which is arranged in parallel to a transverse side 122 of the door 102. Thus, when the door 102 is opened, the orientation of the display unit 12 can be changed to a second position by rotating the display unit 12 around the vertical axis 106 and/or the horizontal axis 108 so that the display unit 12 is still visible also when the door 102 is opened. The mechanism for pivot-mounting of the display unit 12 may be implemented 25 such that it allows either a rotation around the axis 106 or the axis 108, or a rotation around both axis 106 and 108. The display unit 12 may be mounted in the opening of the door 102 such that it lies in or parallel to the plane of the door 102 when pivoted in the first or in the second position.
In the second position, the display unit 12 is operated in an advanced mode, in which 30 it shows a second data set comprising information being relevant for an advanced operation of the cabinet 100. The information comprised by the second data set may comprise operation instructions of the cabinet 100, for example instructions how to change the temperature within the cabinet 100, how to control the power supply of the cabinet 100 particularly in case of power outages. The second data set may further comprise informative notes for service personnel, for example hints to check equipment of the cabinet 100 such as a power supply unit or a UPS, or hints to control the temperature within the cabinet 100. Furthermore, the second data set may comprise a full version of a user manual of the cabinet 100, which may comprise detailed instructions relevant for service personnel to operate the cabinet 100. Yet further, the second data set may comprise interactive information on how to operate the cabinet 100, for example video clips or animated pictures assisting service personnel in certain servicing tasks.
In the second position of the display unit 12, a service mode may be activated to represent a third data set comprising information relevant for servicing the cabinet 100. The service mode is activated when the display unit orientation signal 16 signals the second predetermined position of the display unit 12 and a certain input signal is received by the display processing unit 14 (Fig. 3). The input signal may be for example received from a touch input of the display unit 12 or may be an input received from a keyboard, another device coupled to the cabinet 100 such as for example a mobile device connected wirelessly or wired to the cabinet 100 or from one or more buttons provided at the display unit 12 or the cabinet 100. Particularly, the input signal may for example comprise a certain code to unlock the service mode. The information comprised by the third data set may comprise service information for the cabinet 100, for example information on replaceable parts, information on how to replace for example batteries from an UPS, service log information, for example information on previous service operation such as replacement dates of certain parts, and status information of parts of the cabinets 100, for example the capacity of batteries of an UPS.
Fig. 3 shows a block diagram of a display device 10, which may be integrated in the door 102 of the cabinet 100. The device 10 comprises the display unit 12 and a display processing unit 14, which controls the representation of information on the display unit ί
12. The display processing unit 14 comprises a graphics processing unit 140 for generating the control signals for the display unit 12, a display mode detection unit 142 for detecting the orientation of the display unit 12 depending on the display unit orientation signal 16 and an input signal 17 (for unlocking the service mode) and for generating a display mode selection signal 18 depending on the detected orientation and input signal, and a data set selection unit 144 for obtaining the data set comprising the information to be represented by the display unit 12 depending on the display mode selection signal 18. The data set selection unit 144 may be configured to retrieve a data set from a database 20 storing the different data sets comprising information to be represented by the display unit 12 depending on its orientation and an input signal and/or from a network storage (not shown) via a network interface 22. The data set retrieved from the storage 20 or from a network storage via the network interface 22 by the data set selection unit 144 is processed for representation by the display unit and transmitted to the graphics processing unit 140. The above-mentioned display unit orientation signal 16 may be generated by an orientation sensing unit 24. The orientation sensing unit 24 may for example comprise a hall effect sensor and/or a proximity sensor located near the display unit 12 or integrated in the display unit 12 and/or a geomagnetic field sensor, an accelerometer and/or a gyroscope integrated in the display unit 12 or in the cabinet’s door 102.
Claims (13)
1. A display device (10) provided for application in a cabinet for electrical and electronic equipment and comprising * a display unit (12), and * display processing unit (14) being configured to receive a display unit orientation signal (16) and to generate a display mode selection signal (18) depending on the received display unit orientation signal, ® wherein the display mode selection signal (18) determines one of several modes of the display unit, wherein each one of the several operation inodes comprises a different data set to be represented by the display unit, and wherein the different data sets comprise different information for displaying.
2. The display device of claim 1, wherein the several modes comprise an information mode, an advanced mode, and a service mode, and wherein the display processing unit (14) selects the following data set to be represented by the display unit (12) depending on the display mode selection signal:
® in the information mode, a first data set comprising information being relevant for a standard operation of a device equipped with the display unit (12);
® in the advanced mode, a second data set comprising information being relevant for an advanced operation of the device equipped with the display unit (12);
® in the service mode, a third data set comprising information being relevant for servicing the device equipped with the display unit (12).
3. The display device of claim 2, wherein the first data set comprises one or more of the following information: general information that is relevant to an end user for operating the device equipped with the display unit (12); a simplified version of a user manual of the device equipped with the display unit (12); standard operation alerts.

The display device of claim 2 or 3, wherein the second data set comprises one or more of the following information: operational instructions of the device equipped with the display unit (12); informative notes for service personnel; a full version of a user manual of the device quipped with the display unit (12); interactive information on how to operate the device equipped with the display unit (12).
5. The display device of claim 2, 3 or 4, wherein the third data set comprises one or more of the following information: service information for the device equipped with the display unit (12); service log information; status information of parts of the device equipped with the display unit (12).

The display device of any of the claims 2 to 5, wherein the display processing unit (14) is configured to generate the display mode selection signal (18) to determine the information mode if the display unit orientation signal (16) signals a first predetermined position of the display unit (12), the advanced mode if the display unit orientation signal (16) signals a second predetermined position of the display unit (12), and the service mode if the display unit orientation signal (16) signals the second predetermined position of the display unit (12) and the display processing unit (14) receives an input signal, wherein the first and second predetermined positions differ and correspond to a respective condition of the device equipped with the display unit (12).
7. The display device of any of the preceding claims comprising a storage (20) storing the different data sets to be represented by the display unit (12) and being accessible by the display processing unit (14).
8. The display device of any of the preceding claims comprising a network interface (22) for accessing a network storage storing the different data sets to be represented by the display unit (12) by means of the display processing unit (14).

9. The display device of any of the preceding claims, wherein the display unit (12) is adjustable around an axis (106) and an orientation sensing unit (24) is provided for generating the display unit orientation signal (16) corresponding to the adjustment of the display unit (12).
10. The display device of claim 9, wherein the orientation sensing unit (24) io comprises one or more of the following: a hall effect sensor; a geomagnetic field sensor; an accelerometer: a proximity sensor; a gyroscope; a switch.
11. A door (102) for a cabinet (100) for electrical and electronic equipment, wherein ® the door (102) comprises a display device of any of the preceding
15 claims, and ® the display unit (12) of the display device is rotatably mounted at the door (102) with its rotation axis (106, 108) arranged parallel to or in the plane of the door (102) such that the display unit (12) can be pivoted between two orientations and display unit orientation signals are
20 generated in both orientations.
12. The door of claim 11, wherein the display unit (12) is mounted in an opening in the door (102).
13. The door of claim 11 or 12, wherein the door (102) has a rectangular shape and the rotation axis (106, 108) is arranged in parallel to a longitudinal side
