Atmospheric gas and spray burners; oil-supply fittings.-In an atmospheric gas burner of the kind described in Specifications 16173/12 and 9905/15, in which gas' from a. pipe b is injected into a nozzle containing a spiral blade by steam supplied through a tube c and the whirling mixture passing from the nozzle induces air through one or more inlets in a mixing-tube, an oil-supply tube j is arranged coaxially within the tube c so that a mixture of steam and air with gas, or oil, or both gas and oil, can be burned. When gas is not supplied, the pipe b is closed or employed as an additional inlet for air, which may be preheated by extending the supply pipe through a flue, a furnace or a jacket of hot water or exhaust steam. The rear end of the tube c is formed by a fitting d, screwed into the body a and having a steam inlet f and a screw-threaded aperture g for the reception of the oil-supply fitting k. The tube j is provided with a needle-valve o and with a helical rib, or ribs, p to impart a whirling motion to the steam. In a modification, the tubes c, j are carried by a fitting g, Fig. 8, which is divided by a partition t into compartments r, s supplied with steam and oil respectively, so that the oil is preheated by the steam during its passage through the compartments s as well as through the tube j. The Provisional Specification states also that, when the burner is used with gas only, the oil-supply fittings may be dispensed with, the aperture g being closed by a plug.
