Abstract

A golf swing training aid comprises a base or platform 11 that supports an adjustable arm 9 and a circular ring 12 that acts as a viewfinder. In use, the golfer aims to keep sight 8 of the golf ball through the viewfinder during the drive swing. The objective is to reduce undesirable movement (such as sway) by the golfer when performing a golf swing. The arm might be a three-piece hinged armature arrangement. The arm can be rotated or swivelled on the platform to best suit the golfers posture, size and the golf club being used. The device can be affixed to the ground by the use of golf tees through predrilled holes on the self-supporting platform. The device can be disassembled to fit inside a standard golf club bag.

Description

No Sway Golf Swing Trainer Description
This invention relates to a device that can be placed on the ground adjacent to a golf ball when a golfer is practising in order to assess whether there is unwanted body movement during the swing.
Golfers find creating the proper swing technique challenging. This devise encourages players of any skill level to rapidly refine and take ownership of the most efficient and desirable bio-mechanical swing motion for; Accurate, Powerful and Consistent shots./results.
Golfers who experience difficulty creating a style of motion which maximises the generation of centripetal force (swinging motion of the club head performed about a 'fixed point' located inside the upper sternum), will find use of this invention enhances their physical ability to 'feel' and experience the optimal motion. Resulting in fewer mishits, more consistent and powerful striking of ball with club.
Undesirable bio-mechanical movement on both lateral ("Sway") and vertical (Up/Down) planes, when performing a golf swing, are entirely illuminated if the device is used as recommended. Thusly the proper rotational motion becomes the default learned behaviour.
The device consists of a self supporting solid flat platform upon which sits a flexible armature. The armature can be of a totally flexible nature or made up of three sections held together by hinges. Fixed to the end of the armature is a ring which acts as a view finder and which can be in a number of different sizes dependent upon the skill of the golfer using the device. The platform also has a small hole drilled at each corner so that it may be affixed to the ground when using on grass surfaces using golf tees. (See Picture 1)
The whole assembly can be put together or broken down in seconds and is small and compact to enable it to be stored in an average sized golf bag.
When preparing to strike the golf ball with a swing of the golf club head, the golfer is recommended to align the view-finder/ring that is located on the end of the armature, in his/her line of sight, such that the ball can be seen/viewed throughout the performance of the entire backward and forward swing. The golfer will become aware of the feeling of an undesirable movement, and a desirable movement, because any undesirable movement will mean the golfers view of the ball (or the space it occupied after it has been struck by the dub) will be partially or entirely outside of the view-finder. (See pictures 2 to 6)

Claims (7)

Claims
1. A golf swing training aid that assists in the elimination of undesirable bio-mechanical movement on both later (sway) and vertical (up/down) planes whilst performing a golf swing such that if the golfer keeps sight of the golf ball within the viewfinder until the point that the golf club impacts the golf ball, he /she has minimised the undesirable movement.
2. A golf swing training aid that according to Claim 1 is quickly assembled and compact to enable it to fit inside a standard golf club bag.
3. A golf swing training aid that according to Claim 1 sits on a self supporting platform with a three piece hinged armature that is fixed to the platform by a swivel enabled connection allowing the armature to rotate on the base.
4. A golf swing training aid that according to Claim 1 can be used on grass and affixed to the ground by use of golf tees through pre-drilled holes on the self supporting platform
5. A golf swing training aid that according to Claim 1 can be used on a firm / solid driving range type environment as the device is totally self-supporting.
6. A golf swing training aid that according to Claim one has a three piece hinged armature with a circular ring viewfinder at the free end through which a golf ball can be viewed during the golf swing.
7. A golf swing training aid that according to Claim 1 the armature can be adjusted on the hinges and swivel platform connection to best suit the golfers posture, size and the golf club being used.
