Abstract
A device to compact waste products, the device may be mounted on a wheelie bin, wall mounted or free standing. The device may be slid onto a wheelie bin via guide rails 1. The compactor may have a removable front panel 4 that allows rubbish to be placed on the lower platen 5. The compactor may be operated by manual, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic action means, which can be transmitted to rack and pinion, gears, or chain and sprocket to move the top platens 6 & 8 thus compressing the rubbish. The moving platen 8 may have protruding spikes 7 to pierce the rubbish. When the device is mounted on a wheelie bin, the waste may be removed from the compactor by removing the lower platen 5, thereby allowing the compacted waste to fall into the bin.
Description

WASTE COMPACTOR

This invention relates to a device for compacting domestic, or industrial, waste products.

When a dustbin, wheelie bin, or similar is filled, much space is wasted as the bin liner bags, or similar, often contain empty cartons, wrappers, etc and large voids of air space. This consumes much of the space that could be used to contain waste material.

This invention relates to a device which can be used to compress domestic waste products into a much smaller volume than prior to compression.

The device could be fixed to the top of a wheelie and removed after use. It may also be mounted on a similar container, or free standing, or wall mounted.

The waste matter contained in a bin liner, or similar, is placed in the device.

A moving plate with protruding spikes pierces the bag and contents and crushes the bag removing the air and compressing the waste.

A false bottom may then be removed and the compressed waste bag will be deposited in the wheelie bin, or the bag removed manually and placed in the wheelie bin, etc, if a free standing, or wall mounted device is used.

The compressive force can be applied by either manual mechanical or electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic movement, which can be transmifted to rack and pinion, gears, chain and sprocket, or any other means of creating movement from the power source.

In many areas, refuse collection is now two weekly and many families have too much waste to fit into their supplied "wheelie bin". By the house occupant being able to fit much more waste into their bin, it helps to reduce the problem.

The use of this device will also assist the waste collection and disposal units by having a much greater density load in each wheelie bin, thereby assisting local council collection services by being able to collect less bins/per load, saving time and fuel.

The device is described in Figs 1, 1 a and 2.

Figs 1 & la: manually operated version.

The device can be slid onto a wheelie bin, or similar, the guide rails (1) and stops (2) position the unit in the correct place. The device has four covered side (3) with a front panel (4) which moves to enable the filled rubbish bin liner to be positioned on the movable lower platen (5).

The unit is operated by the selected drive mechanism and the top platens (6) & (8) are lowered, thus compressing the waster matter. The top platen (8) may be fitted with spikes (7) to pierce the rubbish, ie empty containers, etc. The lower platen (5) has holes to clear the spikes.

The free-standing platen (8) may be employed to ensure the compressed bag does not rise up when the compressing platen is retracted Platen (8) will be retained on the spikes.

Once compressed, the lower platen (5) is pulled forward by handle (10) and the compressed waste falls into the wheelie bin (etc).

The device has four stout corner posts (11) and could be operated manually by rack and pinion, or similar (12), pneumatic, electrical, or hydraulic means.

Fig 2: power driven version (electrical reversing motor depicted in this arrangement).

Claims (1)
-
CLAIMS

1. A domestic waste compactor for mounting on a wheelie bin, or similar.

2. A waste compactor according to claim 1 can then be wall mounted, or free standing.

3. A waste compactor according to claim 2 that can derive its compression force from either manual, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic motion.

4. A waste compactor according to claim 1 that has a removable base to allow compressed, bagged, contents to fall into a container by gravity.
