Abstract
A pick up tool comprises a shovel with a hinged lid which may be opened or closed by the actions of a sliding device mounted on the handle. The lid is attached to the sliding device by a linking bar. In use, when the slide is moved up the handle the lid will be opened, while it is closed when the slide is pushed down the handle toward the shovel. The device may be fabricated from sheet steel and sheet aluminium. The tool is operated using both hands, and may be of use to persons who have difficulty in bending.
Description
This tool I have invented is a pickup tool and is called a tailgate
shovel.
When put to work, it will pick up leaves, lawn grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, weeds, and thorny materials.
It consists of three working parts.
Part 1 is a box molded from sheet steel Part 2 is a gate called the tail gate This tailgate is shaped out of aluminium and is hinged on to the box and can be opened or closed when the above materials are drawn into the box.
Part 3 is the tailgate opening & closing mechanism. It consists of a slide on the handle of the shovel, When this slide is drawn back towards the end of the handle. a bar that is connected to the slide and to the tailgate will open the box and when the slide is pushed down the handle the tailgate will close.
This tool is helpful for people with bad backs and is worked with both hands.

1 A TAILGATE SHOVEL INCLUDES A HANDLE 1 AND A SLIDE ON THIS HANDLE 1
2 A SHOVEL AS CLAIMED IN NUMBER 1 HAS A TAILGATE NUMBER 2 HINGED ONTO BACK OF SHOVEL.
3 AS CLAIMED IN NUMBER 2 THE TAILGATE IS OPERATED BY A SLIDE 3 ON THE HANDLE 1 THE SLIDE IS CONNECTED TO A BAR No 4 WHICH OPENS AND CLOSES TAILGATE No 2 4 A SHOVEL AS CLAIMED IN ANY PRECEEDING CLAIM IS DESIGNED
TO PICK UP GARDEN WASTE SUCH AS HEDGH TRIMMINGS LAWN
GRASS CUTTINGS LEAVES AND WEEDS.
A SHOVEL AS CLAIMED IN ANY PRECEEDING CLAIM IS MADE
FROM SHEET STEEL AND SHEET ALUMINIUM.
