Abstract
An isolator valve is adaptable to various standard diameter sizes of appliance connector fittings. It is inserted onto the appliance s inlet pipe and secured by a compression end fitting 1.6 at the base of the valve body which is held by a single non captive nut connector 1.2 that is rotated around the lower part of the valve body fixing the pipe in place. The outlet pipe of the appliance is connected to a straight pipe fitting 1.3 at the top of the valve body that can be attached to a non captive nut of the outlet fitting. A circular valve screw head 1.1 located at the centre of the valve body can be rotated by a screwdriver to adjust an internal ball valve which allows or restricts flow of liquid from the appliance.
Description
Patent Application Of Rae Paramore for single connector isolator valve range
Background of the Invention
[2] The present invention relates to an isolation plumbing valve and in particular is designed to be adapted to various sizes of outlets as well as enabling the connection of non captive nut fittings.
[3] Isolation valves that are used for the purposes of preventing the risk of water leaks in radiators by allowing for the appliance to be isolated from its water supply through a twist mechanism that can restrict or allow the flow of liquid are known in the art.
[4] For example, AU3236284 to Studer discloses a method of repairing a leak, where there is a water network with a main shutoff valve. An isolation valve is inserted in the pipe a short distance upstream of the leak, and the leak is repaired by using the local isolation valve to keep water from the repair location.
This enables the main shutoff valve to be opened and distribute water to the other areas of the network. The isolation valve is particularly arranged to become a permanent part of the water system after the leak is repaired.
[5] Furthermore, GB0007166 to Austin discloses a radiator valve is manufactured to contain two isolation or shut-off valves and is compatible with thermostatic, handwheel or lockshield heads. Both isolation valves can be closed to allow the removal or repair of the main radiator valve with minimal water loss. When only one valve is closed, the radiator can be removed with minimal water loss, the second valve may be omitted.
[6] Furthermore, GB8807483 to Wilkie discloses a radiator isolation valve component comprises a tubular member having a longitudinal passage there through and adapted to connect a radiator with an inflow pipe or an outflow pipe, the said member having a valve capable of permitting or restricting flow through the said longitudinal passage and having external means for actuating the said valve.
[7] Furthermore, GB8904724 to Tung discloses a radiator system that has two primary valves to enable each of the inlet and outlet of a radiator to be opened and cLosed, and further comprises a secondary valve located between each respective primary valve and the respective radiator inlet or outlet. Each secondary valve is disconnectable from the respective primary valve so that, upon closing all the primary and secondary valves, each pair of adjacent primary and secondary valves can be disconnected and the radiator removed without the need for the latter to be drained.
[81 Furthermore, GB9720020 to Maynard discloses a Radiator Connector that can be used on any appliance or vessel containing fluids which requires the unit being separated from the supply for access or servicing. The device operates by means of a ball valve contained within the connector body and the open or closed position of the valve in selected by rotating a plot with a screwdriver to the required position. The device is threaded at one end 11 and at the other end there is a flange and nut that marries up with a shut off valve. The device is designed to eliminate the need of drain down procedures by isolating and containing the contents within the appliance.
Brief Summary and Advantages of the Invention
[9] The preceding demonstrates the practical purpose for the isolator valve having the capability of connecting to a wide variety of appliances with the use of its connecting pipe as well as its internal mechanisms allowing it to open and close when necessary to control or repair the flow of liquids from the main supply.
[10] It would be advantageous for the isolation valve to comprise of an attachable pipe fitting end allowing for it to connect to non captive nut fittings from a variety of appliances.
[11] It would be preferable for the isolation valve to be adaptable to a wide range of connector fittings, standard diameter sizes and materials for greater compatibility.
[12] It would be preferable for the isolation valve to be approved by the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme.
[13] It would be preferable for the isolation valve to consist of only a single nut connector so that it can be conveniently used across the board within plumbing and heating industries.
[14] It would be preferable for the isolation valve to repair radiator devices and to prevent the leakage of fluid within a short space of time in such a way as to use two sets of isolator valves of which the valve screw heads can be rotated in a clockwise or anticlockwise direction allowing for the release or prevention of its fluid.
[15] It would be advantageous for the isolator valve to consist of four products within its range consisting of a chrome plated brass body with compression end and straight pipe fitting end, a white gloss finish brass body with compression end and elbow pipe fitting end, a copper body with soldier fitting and straight pipe fitting end and a plastic body with push fit end and straight pipe fitting end.

Detailed Description of the Invention
[19] An isolator valve comprising, valve screw head, ball valve, non captive nut, straight pipe fitting end and compression end fitting.
[20] Figure 1 (1.3) displaying the vertical straight pipe fitting end placed at the top part of the isolation valve acts as the connecting component to the radiator or any similar fluid containing vessel. The pipe fitting end is usually inserted within the outlet fitting and held in place by a non captive nut which is usually attached after the inlet pipe has been assembled.
[21] The straight standard sized pipe fitting end (fig 1.3) is firmly attached to the outlet non captive nut with the use of olive rings encircling the pipe fitting which is further secured externally by sliding the nut of the connecting pipe over the olive ring and twisting it tightly to prevent leakage from the pipes.
[22] The lower part of the isolation valve (figure 3) displays the hollow cylindrical passage for the inlet pipe to be inserted within enabling its connection to the isolation valve with the use of an additional olive ring which would be encircled by the rounded compression end fitting (figure 3, 1.6) and tightened using the hollow centred non captive nut (1.2) which would be manually rotated around the spiral ridges located across the valve body in a clockwise motion in order to be firmly fixed to the
S
inlet pipes diameter, thus preventing any fluid leaks and integrating the valve as a part of the appliance.
[23] The main body of the isolation valve (figure 2) externally comprises a circular valve screw head (1.1) which is mounted upon the centre of the valve with an indented rectangular ridge plot located at its midpoint to enable its clockwise rotation with a screwdriver.
[24] The valve screw head (1.1) is fixed to the rounded ball valve which is placed internally within the valve body containing a hollow circular hole. The valve screw head (1.1) is twisted in a clockwise motion with the use of a screwdriver allowing for the ball valve to act as an obstruction to the liquid flowing from the inlet pipe beneath it.
[25] Depending on its positioning upon rotation of the valve screw head, the hollow opening within the ball can be concealed when the screw it twisted at a certain angle. This will allow for the isolator valve to separate the flow of liquid from the appliance for the purpose of servicing of drainage.
[26] When the valve screw head (1.1) is rotated back to its vertical positioning, the ball valves opening is exposed to the inlet pipe allowing for the liquid to flow through the valve reaching the pipe end fitting and the connected appliance.
[27] Multiple isolator valves can be attached to various appliances through their outlet fittings whereby the need to isolate the flow of fluid from occurs where there are more than one pipe outlets, as used for radiators.
[28] The isolator valve is able to adapt to the diameter sizes and materials of the appliance through the flexible pipe fitting ends that are either straight in shape or arched depending on the appliance they may be used for as well as being attachable to the outlets nut fitting.
