Abstract
A ceiling mounted pull light switch with an illuminated pull knob at the end of the pull cord, Illuminated via a Light Emitting Diode LED in either main housing and light transmission to end of cord via fibre optical wire as figure 1 or by an LED within the pull knob itself, fed by a power cord within the strengthened cord from the main unit as shown in figure 2. Increases visibility of the pull knob at the end of the pull cord.
Description
Ceiling Pull Light Switch with Orientation Illumination A ceiling mounted pull light switch with an illuminated pull knob at the end of the pull cord.
This invention relates to an illuminated light switch pull cord. When going to the bathroom in the dark it is often difficult to find way in the room or the lights pull cord.
This invention serves as an attractive night light to help orientation in the dark.
To overcome this the present invention proposes to illuminate the end of the cord by low voltage LED light source.
The LED light source will offer a significant amount of ambient light at the end of the pull cord.
The resulting glow will significantly illuminate the the knob at the end of the cord making orientation easy.
The use of an LED light source means low power consumption and long bulb life and the choice of different bulb colours.
It can also be made to be illuminated permanently or just when the room light is off. Or also when the room is dark by the use of a light sensor.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows the first design where the LED is mounted in the main switch on the ceiling The light is transmitted to the end knob by the use of optical cable Figure 2 shows the second option in which the LED mounted in the actual end knob and powered by a wire in the Pull cord.
The unit in figure 1, is the fibre optical model. Component 1, is the units housing which is fitted onto the ceiling or wall if it's a vertical application. The main switch unit inside 2 is what turns the light on or off as the cord 7 is pulled.
A photo cell 4, or the switch 2 ensure that power via wire 3 only gets to the LED 5 when there is insufficient ambient light in the room.
The pull cord its self 7 contains an optical fibre 6 in the centre of it to transmit the light from the LED 5 to the pull knob 8. The end of the pull knob 8 is made in such a way that the light is diffused so as to illuminate the knob and its surroundings.
In figure 2 the housing 1, switch 5 and photo cell 6 work in the same manner as the unit in figure 1. The difference between being the method of illuminating the end knob 4. In figure 2 the LED 8 is mounted at the end of the knob 4.
The power is transmitted via a thin wire 7 in the centre of the pull cord 3. To power the LED 8 which illuminates downwards and sideways.
