Abstract
A solar thermal roof ridge tile comprises internal fluid pipes, a male push fit connector at one end and a female push fit socket at the other end. The ridge tiles may be joined together using the male and female push fit system. The tiles preferably comprise a plastic or glass inset to cover the pipes. A spacer may be inserted between the ridge tiles to ensure that the assembly is secure and watertight. Preferably, the first ridge the is fitted with flexible pipes on the male connectors, for connection to a water system, and the last ridge tile is fitted with a U-shaped fitting on the female sockets to join the flow and return pipes, thus completing the flow circuit. In use, the solar thermal roof ridge tiles are designed to be a direct replacement for conventional ridge tiles, and collect solar energy by heating a water/antifreeze solution flowing through the tiles, where the heat is then transferred to a hot water cylinder.
Description
Solar thermal roof ridge tile
Description
The idea behind this design is to allow roofers to easily fit the product keeping plumbers (who are not proficient at working on a roof) off the roof.
It is also designed to be aesthetically pleasing unlike the systems available at the moment. This will allow people who live in conservation areas and listed buildings to benefit from a green energy source.
Solar thermal ridge tiles are designed to collect the suns energy and heat a water/antifreeze solution that runs below the surface of the ridge then transfers this heat to the hot water cylinder reducing the amount of energy required to produce hot water.
Drawing 1 This illustrates a flattened view of the pipe work that runs inside the ridge tile.
The ridges are joined together using a male and female push fit system.
Drawing 2 This shows a 3D view of a completed ridge with the male connectors protruding from the right hand side and the pipe cover sealed in place.
Drawing 3 This is the spacer that is used to make watertight between the ridge tiles, it has a cut out section on one end to allow connection of the pipes, a water check to stop capillary and a bracket and screw in the top to secure the ridge tiles.
Overview The first ridge to be secured is fitted with flexible pipes to the male connecters that protrude into the roof area for the plumber to connect to the water system.
The last ridge secured is fitted with a U connecter in the female sockets. This is to join the flow and return pipes, thus completing the circuit. Claim
