Abstract
The hollow handle 1 of a portable electric drill has magnets 2 for the retention of accessories 3, such as drill bits that are not currently inserted in the drill chuck. The magnets 2 may be inbuilt in the handle 1 (as shown), or may be incorporated in an internal sleeve (4, Figure 2) or in an external sleeve (4, Figure 3).
Description
I
Improvements to handles of portable electric drills This invention relates to a means of storing accessories inside the handle of a portable electric drill.
Using a portable electric drill commonly entails frequent changes of the bits inserted into the chuck. A common sequence is to drill a hole with one or more drill bits and then change to a screwdriver bit to insert a screw into the hole. Usually the user puts the last-used bit back in its box, in his pocket, on the floor, or wherever. When the screwdriver bit is no longer needed it is removed and stored somewhere, often in a special clip on the drill body, and the search for the right drill bit to start drilling the next hole begins. Often this sequence is repeated many times using a small number of bits.
This invention provides a means of storing the bits that are not currently being used inside the hollow handle of the drill. The bits are held in position by means of one or more magnets forming part of the handle or attached to the handle by means of a sleeve.
The invention will now be described by example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a cross-section of a hollow drill handle with two magnetic retainers built into it.
Figure 2 shows a cross-section of a hollow drill handle with two magnetic retainers contained within a sleeve that is inserted inside the handle.
Figure 3 shows a cross-section of a hollow drill handle with two magnetic retainers contained within a sleeve that surrounds the handle.
In Figure 1, a drill handle, 1, has moulded into it two magnets, 2, that retain the unused drill accessories, 3.
In Figure 2, a drill handle, 1, contains a sleeve, 4, that contains two magnets, 2, that retain the unused drill accessories, 3, inside it.
In Figure 3, a drill handle, 1, is surrounded by a sleeve, 4, that contains two magnets, 2, that retain the unused drill accessories, 3, inside the handle.
