Description
MULTIPURPOSE IMPLEMENT
BACKGROUND OF TIlE iNVENTION
(a) Field of the Invention:
The present invention relates to a multipurpose implement with an integral refillable liquid dispensing unit. The range of application for the principle operation of this invention includes personal, domestic and industrial usages.
(b) Description of Related Art:
Many applications for cleaning, polishing and greasing for example require the use of a brushed or sponge head type implement together with a separate liquid that is housed individually in its own separate container. The liquid, be it in the forms of paste, gels or viscous fluids, is commonly applied to the bristles of the brush or directly to the sponge, which in turn is applied to the object that requires cleaning or polishing for example.
Irpical applications include, but are not limited to: 1. Personal facial scrub sponges where a facial cleanser is applied to a scrub sponge or oral hygiene where the application of toothpaste, whitening gels, polishing paste is made to a toothbrush.
2. Domestic -cleaning where the application of cleanser is applied to a brush or sponge for cleaning of pots and dishes, cleaning or whitening of tile grout in between tiles, cleaning of intricate places in domestic ovens and hobs, cleaning or restoration of alloy wheels on automobiles, cleaning and polishing ofjewelry and application of paint to a paint brush, sponge or roller.
3. Industrial -restoration, cleaning and greasing applications of machinery.
This common application of a separate sponge or brush and liquid has many disadvantages, which are overcome by the principle of this present invention: 1. The need for two separate items, which could often result in the misplacement or inconvenient loss of one of the items, particularly when traveling.
2. Inconsistent application of the amount of liquid to the brush head or sponge often leading to wastage through excess or even insufficient liquid being applied.
3. Frequent application of liquid to brush depending on task, thus being inefficient.
4. Upon end of life of the sponge or brush, the latter typically due to worn bristles, the complete implement assembly, consisting of sponge or brush head and handle, is disposed. Given that the handle is still fit for purpose, this is wasteful in today's environmentally conscious world.
Whilst these devices, known in the prior art, fulfill their particular respective application objectives and requirements, the inventive device presents a new convenient concept of user replaceable brush or sponge with reusable integral liquid dispenser. The inventive device includes a housing with dispensing unit section that also forms the handle and a user replaceable brush or sponge implement head section extending from the dispensing unit section. The implement head section, sponge or brush -the latter having a plurality of bristles, have an integral guide passage and overflow opening end therein. The dispensing unit's reservoir has liquid therein and is in communication with the implement head section through the extension of the guide passage to the overflow opening therein. The dispensing unit has a rotating end cap with a threaded drive screw rod with a movable dispensing piston rotatably coupled.
Upon turning of the rotating end cap the dispensing piston may be actuated to move forward such that the fluid within the dispenser compartment may be forced toward the brush head through the guide passage to eject over the sponge or bristles through the overflow opening within the implement head. The dispensing unit's reservoir is filled or refilled by turning the rotating end cap counter-clockwise to retract the dispensing piston filly back to the base of the reservoir, opening the seal lid of the rotating end cap, applying a general longitudinal tube of liquid to the internal conical opening of the rotating end cap at the base of the dispensing unit and advancing the fluid from the general longitudinal tube of liquid to push fluid into the reservoir of the dispensing unit through a guide tube and filling outlet within the threaded drive screw rod, the filling outlet being positioned above the dispensing piston at the base of the reservoir. The outer sleeve of the dispensing unit's reservoir forms the handle that engages to the user replaceable implement head.
In these respects, by combining the liquid and implement head together and in communication, the liquid can be easily, readily and accurately dispensed onto the replaceable implement head thus addressing the foregoing disadvantages of the prior art. The present invention substantially departs from the conventional designs and
concepts of the prior art.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
In view of the foregoing disadvantages in the known types of sponge or brush implements now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a new multi-puipose implement with user replaceable implement heads which attach and communicate with a refillable dispensing unit that also forms the handle of the implement. By combining the liquid and implement head together and in communication, the liquid can be easily, readily and accurately dispensed onto the replaceable implement head thus addressing the foregoing disadvantages of the prior art.
To attain this, the inventive device includes a housing with dispensing unit section that also forms the handle and a user replaceable brush or sponge implement head section extending from the dispensing unit section. The implement head section, sponge or brush -the lafter having a plurality of bristles, have an integral guide passage and overflow opening therein. The dispensing unit's reservoir has liquid therein and is in communication with the implement head section through the extension of the guide passage to the overflow opening therein. The dispensing unit has a rotating end cap with a threaded drive screw rod with a movable dispensing piston rotatably coupled. Upon clockwise rotation of the rotating end cap, the dispensing piston may be actuated to move forward creating pressure such that the fluid within the dispenser compartment may be forced toward the brush head through the guide passage to eject over the sponge or bristles through the overflow opening within the implement head. The dispensing unit's reservoir is filled or refilled by rotating the rotating end cap counter-clockwise to reiract the dispensing piston fully back to the base of the reservoir, opening the seal lid of the rotating end cap, applying a general longitudinal tube of liquid to the internal conical funnel opening of the rotating end cap at the base of the dispensing unit and advancing the fluid from the general longitudinal tube of liquid to push fluid into the reservoir of the dispensing unit through a guide tube and filling outlet within the threaded drive screw rod, the filling outlet being positioned above the dispensing piston at the base of the reservoir.
The outer sleeve of the dispensing unit reservoir forms the handle that engages to the user replaceable implement head.
The more important features of the invention have thus been outlined in order that the detailed description that follows may be better understood and that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter which will form the subject matter of which the claims are appended hereto.
It is to be understood, in this respect and before explaining one embodiment of the invention in detail, that the invention is not limited in its applications to the details of construction and to the arrangements of the components presented in the following description or drawings. The invention is capable of other embodiments and being utilized in various practical ways.
As such, it is to be understood that the embodiment described herein is merely illustrative of the principles of the invention and that a wide variety of modifications thereto may be effected by persons skilled iii the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention. Furthermore, it is to be understood that the terminology and phraseology employed herein are for the purpose of description and should not be limiting.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to combine conventional brush or sponge type implements together with liquids, in the forms of paste, gels or viscous fluids, that are usually contained as separate entities through a new multipurpose implement with refillable liquid dispensing unit. To attain this, the inventive device includes a housing with dispensing unit section that also forms the handle and a user replaceable brush or sponge implement head section extending from the dispensing unit section. The implement head section, sponge or brush -the latter having a plurality of bristles, have an integral guide passage and overflow opening therein. The dispensing unit reservoir is filled or refilled by rotating the rotating end cap counter-clockwise to retract the dispensing piston fully back to the base of the reservoir, opening the seal lid of the rotating end cap, applying the dispensing nozzle of a general longitudinal tube of liquid to the internal conical funnel opening of the rotating end cap at the base of the dispensing unit and advancing the fluid from the general longitudinal tube of liquid to push fluid into the reservoir of the dispensing unit through a guide tube and filling outlet within the threaded screw rod, the filling outlet being positioned above the dispensing piston at the base of the reservoir. The outer sleeve of the dispensing unit reservoir forms the handle that engages to the user replaceable implement head.
Another object of this invention is to ensure that filling arid refilling of the reservoir within the dispensing unit maintains an easy and hygienic process due to the internal conical funnel fluid receiver within the rotating end cap This feature of a cone shaped opening accommodates dispensing nozzles of varying diameters, exhibited on general longitudinal tubes of liquid to minimize fluid leakage during filling or refilling.
A further object of this invention is that the dispensing unit itself is detachable from the implement head section to allow easy cleaning of its component parts (reservoir, threaded drive screw rod and dispensing piston with friction seal ring) thus maintaining effective operation and hygiene. Given that the dispensing unit, that also forms the handle of the complete multipurpose implement, is refillable and easily cleaned between fillings, its lifetime is preserved, and as such, does not require replacement, thus being economic and environmentally friendly over the prior art.
A further object of the invention is to ensure that there is a sufficient amount of liquid to supply the implement head with adequate applications for effective and efficient use. This is determined by both the size of the reservoir and the accuracy with which the liquid is dispensed to the implement head. The present invention fulfills this to provide a maximal number of fluid dispersions, while maintaining a minimal volume reservoir by balancing this with a dispensing piston and threaded drive screw rod design. Thus this ensures the fine accurate control of pressure to force liquid through the guide passage to eject over the sponge or bristles through the overflow opening within the implement head. The present invention is designed to provide at least 20 applications of fluid from the reservoir to the implement head.
Another object of this invention is the implement head, be it a sponge or brush type, the latter containing a plurality of bristles, is detachable and user replaceable should the sponge or bristles be worn through use. Replacement of the implement head only is both economic and environmentally friendly.
It is a further object of the present invention to accommodate variations of the individual implement heads attached to the dispensing unit depending on the application of the implement. For example a cleaning brush may have a plurality of bristles of varying textures, or a sponge of varying abrasiveness.
Another object of this invention is to ensure that the fluid contained within the guide passage cavity does not cause blockages should the fluid harden through, for example, the lapse of time in usage or reaction of fluid to exposed elements such as air.
A protective lid which shrouds the sponge or bristles of the brush head prevents the fluid from direct exposure to air as well as protecting the implement head and maintaining hygiene. The guide passage and overflow opening of the removable implement head allow easy removal of unforeseen blockages should the protective cap not be utilized in error.
It is yet another object of the present invention to provide a multipurpose brush with liquid dispensing unit which may be efficiently and easily manufactured to a durable and reliable construction. The design is conducive to an economical manufacture process, which accordingly is conducive to affordability that could be easily marketed to a general buying public.
These together with other objects of the invention, along with various features of novelty that characterize the invention, are pointed out with particularity in the claims, annexed to and forming part of this disclosure. For a better understanding of the invention, its operating advantages and specific objects attained by its uses, reference should be made to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which there are illustrated preferred embodiments of the invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
With reference now to the drawings and in particular to Figures 1, 2 and 3 thereof, the present invention of a multipurpose implement with refillable dispensing unit is mainly a cylindrical hollow implement handle 10 which forms the outer casing of the dispensing unit's reservoir 101 for receiving liquid in the form of paste, gels or viscous fluids, comprises a replaceable implement body Ii disposed, to form a push fit, water tight seal at the front end of the implement handle 10, with an integral guide passage 12 therein. The front end of the replaceable implement body 11 thereof is provided with an implement head such as brush bristles 13 (or sponge 131), and an overflow opening 14 that extends above the root of the brush bristles 13 such that the pressurized liquid moves to the overflow opening 14 along the guide passage 12 ejecting fluid onto the brush bristles 13 (or sponge 131). A protective lid 30 is used for covering the replaceable implement body 11 and brush bristles 13 (or sponge 131) for both protection and hygiene.
With reference to Figure 3 and 4, at the rear of the implement handle 10 is a captive through ring 15 that is received and held captive by the implement handle cavity 101, the revolving drive assembly 20 of which one end forms the threaded drive screw rod 21 and the opposite end forms the liquid receiver with an internal conical funnel 22 leading to a guide tube 23 that extends along the axial central position of the threaded drive screw rod 21 further leading to a filling outlet 24 and is capped by a removable seal lid 26. The captive through ring 15 is equipped with a centre hole 151 that receives the threaded drive screw rod 21. At the base of the threaded drive screw rod 21 toward the liquid receiving conical funnel 22, is an inverted retaining hook 25 which when passed through the captive through ring's 15 centre hole 151 is hooked and engaged to prevent the threaded drive screw rod 21 disconnecting from the captive through ring 15 whilst further forming a ring-like union to allow free and easy rotation of the revolving drive assembly 20 in place and in both directions. A movable pressurizing dispensing piston 40, with a friction sealing ring 41 that is held captive by an annular groove located centrally on the cylindrical outer rim edge of the dispensing piston 40, is rotatably coupled to the threaded drive screw rod 21 The conical funnel 22 opens to a large full circle aperture to receive varying diameters of nozzles of general longitudinal liquid tubes.
The principle of operation is best understood with reference to Figures 2 and 4.
The implement handle cavity 101, forming the dispensing unit's reservoir, is filled or refilled by rotating the rotating end cap, consisting of the rotating drive assembly 20 and seal lid 26, counter-clockwise to retract the dispensing piston 40 fully back to the base of the reservoir, opening the seal lid 26 of the rotating end cap, applying a general longitudinal tube of liquid to the internal conical funnel 22 opening of the rotating drive assembly 20 and advancing the fluid from the general longitudinal tube of liquid to push fluid into the reservoir of the dispensing unit through the guide tube 23 and filling outlet 24 within the threaded drive screw rod 21, the filling outlet 24 being positioned above the dispensing piston 40 located at the base of the reservoir.
Upon completion of filling of the reservoir, the seal lid 26 is refitted to the rotating drive assembly 20 to complete the rotating end cap. Upon rotation of the rotating end cap, the dispensing piston 40 may be actuated to move forward to create pressure such that the fluid within the dispensing unit's reservoir may be forced toward the implement body 11 through the guide passage 12 to eject over the brush bristles 13 (or sponge 131) through the overflow opening 14 within the implement head. The outer sleeve of the dispensing unit's reservoir forms the handle that engages to the user replaceable implement head.
In this creation of the implementation example, the implement head and the dispensing unit that forms the handle are designed for separation, but form as one body when connected. The implement handle 10 of the dispensing unit and the captive through ring 15 are designed to form one connected body.
Another embodiment of the present invention is to provide a plurality of longitudinal projecting ribs along the inner wall of the implement handle cavity 101 in order to increase the friction thereof and ensure the engagement of dispensing piston 40 without deliberate rotation of the rotating end cap.
The present invention of a multipurpose implement with refillable dispensing unit effectively combines the user replaceable implement such as a sponge or brush head and the liquid, in the form of paste, gel or viscous fluids, together as one body therefore becoming convenient, portable, self-supplying with accurate dispensation and a replaceable implement head therefore being efficient, economic and environmentally friendly.
Furthermore, another object of this invention is that the dispensing unit itself is detachable from the implement head section to allow easy cleaning of the implement handle cavity 101, threaded drive screw rod 21 and dispensing piston 40 with friction scaling ring 41, thus maintaining effective operation and hygiene. Given that the dispensing unit, that also forms the handle of the complete multipurpose implement, is refillable and easily cleaned between fillings, its lifetime is preserved, and as such, does not require replacement thus being economic and environmentally friendly over the prior art. The protective lid 30 protects the implement body 11, including sponge 131 or bristled portion 13, and further promotes longevity and hygiene. Cumulatively, the present invention offers a convenient, efficient, economic and environmentally friendly solution with durability.
As to a further discussion of the manner of usage and operation of the present invention, the same should be apparent from the above description. Accordingly, no further discussion relating to the manner of usage and operation will be provided.
With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, shape, materials form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to those skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Furthermore, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation illustrated and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the spirit scope of the invention as set forth by the following claims:
