Abstract

A tape measure 1 comprises a housing in which an extendable tape 5 is retracted. A locking device is fixed on the housing, adjacent the exit hole for the tape, and is actuated by a slider 2. A blade holder cover 4 is located on the housing, to one side of the device adjacent the slider, and contains a blade (9 fig 4) held in a blade holder (7 fig 4). A finger grip and slider 3 arrangement is located at the free end of the tape and permits the free end of the tape to be slid along an edge of a workpiece by means of a ball bearing housed in the slider 3. The device enables a user to make a cut parallel to an edge of a workpiece at a distance measured by the tape measure.

Description

THE CUTTING TAPE [TECHNICAL FIELD] THIS INVENTATION RELATES TO A TAPE WITH A CUTTING BLADE.
BUILT ON TO OR IN TO THE TAPE.
[BACKGROUND] PLASTERERS, TACKERS, AND DRYLINERS IN THE BUILDING TRADE HAVE PROBLEMS CUTTING THE PLASTER BOARDS AND DRY LINING BOARDS WITH A NORMAL TAPE AND CUTTING BLADE.
THEY HAVE TO HOLD THE TAPE TO THE EDGE OF THE BOARD, WITH THIER FOUR FINGER AND THUMB RUNNING IT DOWN THE EDGE OF THE BOARD GIVING THEM SORE FINGERS WHILE HOLDING A CUTTING BLADE AT THE OTHER END OF THE TAPE, TRYING TO CUT A STRAIGHT LINE.
[SEE PAGE 1A FIGURE DRAWING 1] [ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL FEATURES] THE CUTTING TAPE 1 HAS A CUTTING BLADE 9 THAT FITS ON TO THE BLADE HOLDER 7 WHICH THEN GOES IN TO THE BLADE HOLDER CASING 4 WHICH WHEN THE THUMB SLIDER 2 ON THE TAPE IS PUSHED DOWN TO HOLD THE TAPE AT THE REQUIRED MEASUREMENT. THE CUTTING BLADE 9 COME DOWN WITH THE THUMB SLIDER 2 OUT THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE TAPE CASING 1 AND ALLOWS YOU TO SLIDE THE TAPE DOWN THE BOARD USING THE TAPE CASING 1 AS A HANDLE TO CUT THE BOARD. ALLOWING YOU TO SNAP THE BOARD FIRST TIME WITHOUT HAVING TO SCORE THE BOARD AGAIN, LIKE MOST PLASTERER^S AND TAKERS HAVE TO DO.

  1. CLAIMS A CONVENTIONAL TAPE WHICH HAS A BUILT IN CUTTING BLADE.
    2 A CONVENTIONAL TAPE WHICH HAS A BUILT IN CUTTING BLADE ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE TAPE.
    3 A CONVENTIONAL TAPE WHICH HAS A BUILT IN CUTTING BLADE ON THE RIGHT HANDSIDE OF THE TAPE.AS SEEN ON FIGURE 1.
    4 A CUTTING BLADE HOLDER 7 WHICH HOLDS A CUTTING BLADE 9. AS SEEN IN FIGURE 4.
    S A THUMB SLIDER 2 WITH BUILT IN BLADE HOLDER 7 6 A FOUR FINGER AND THUMB HOLDER 3 PUT ONTO THE END OF TAPE FOR EASY HANDLING.
    7 AN UNSCREWABLE OUTER CASSING 4 ON THE BLADE HOLDER 7 FOR EASY REMOVEMEM OF OUTER CASSING ON BLADE HOLDER.
