Abstract
An all wheel drive or two wheel drive transmission comprises turbine like motors 2 arranged in a closed loop circuit in which is circulated suitably treated water under pressure. The water passes through a steering-operated flow divider (hydraulic power controller) 1 so that as the vehicle is cornering an inner pair of wheels receive less flow than an outer pair of wheels, in direct relation to the acuteness of the comer. Excess water is stored in chamber 4 which is diaphragm divided for use on such occasions as most needed, eg hill starts or moving from rest. To brake either a variable displacement pump with reverse flow facility is used or a mono-stroke pump (volumetric) having flow controlled by an electro-rheological valve, in which instance a flow-reversal valve for braking would be required in the circuit.
Description
AN ALL-WHEEL DRIVE
TRANSMISSION
Description
A vehicular all-wheel drive transmission or two-wheel drive transmission of the closed loop type where suitably treated water is circulated under pressure to 'turbine-like motors, 2, the motors acting in advance and braking mode. Where there is zero flow the vehicle is stationary. Excess water pressure is stored in a chamber, 4, diaphram-divided for use on such occasions as most needed, e.g., hill starts or moving off from rest.
Radiators, 3, for cooling the transmission agent water, are advantageously located on the vehicle. To assist in the reduction of tyre wear, the water is first passed through the steering actuated flow divider HPC (Hydraulic
Power Controller), 1, in such a manner that, when the vehicle is cornering, the inner pair of wheels receive less flow than the outer pair, in direct relation to the acuteness of the comer to which the vehicle is subjected.
To create reverse flow, i.e. braking, either a variable displacement pump with reverse flow facility (not shown in Fig. 1) is used or a mono-stroke pump (volumetric), where flow is controlled by an electro-rheological valve, in which instance a flow-reversal valve for braking would be required in circuit.
Claims (1)
- AN ALL-WHEEL DRIVETRANS MISS SION Claim 1 A vehicular transmission whereby suitably treated water is made to flow, in two directions, by a driven pump to provide acceleration, cruise and retardation.Claim 2 A vehicular transmission system, as described in Claim 1, whereby enclosed turbine-like motors at or related to each driven wheel accept water under pressure efficiently (especially from stationary) and convert same to mechanical force.Claim 3 A vehicular transmission system, as described in Claims 1 and 2, where an ultra-high pressure two-chamber unit is contained in the system to provide additional motivation when most needed, for example when moving off from rest.Claim 4 A vehicular transmission system, as described in Claims 1, 2 and 3, where the water is first passed through a steering-operated flow divider HPC to provide trace for each comer to which the vehicle is subjected, resulting in reduction in tyre wear and lighter steering.Claim 5 A vehicular transmission system as described in claims 1, 2, 3 and 4 where flow is volumetrically controlled by a valve unit containing an electro-rheological valve itself being in receipt of electric current and driver-controlled
