Abstract

A waste water recovery system which is specifically intended to collect waste water from various sources (2,3) and store in a collection tank (1) from which it is treated/filtered (6,8) for subsequent use flushing the proverbial W.C. a pump (10) pumps the re-cycled water to the W.C. cistern/s (17). Automatic control of the electrically driven pump is accomplished through a pressure switch (11), pressure relief valve (12), non-return valve (13), timer control (14) and ball float valve (18). At times of high recovery rates surplus water is directed to brain/soakaway by a diverter ((4). Conversley at times of low recovery rates a ball float valve (7) controlled mains supply comes into operation. During periods of maintenance or due to system failure a mains supply to the W.C. cistern/s can be introduced manually (21). Non-return valves (22,23) ensure waste water back-flow into the mains supply is prevented.

Description

WASTE WATER RECOVERY SYSTEM FOR BUILDINGS THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A WASTE WATER RECOVERY SYSTEM DEVISED TO CONSERVB WATER UTILLISATION WITHIN BUILDINGS BE THEY DOMESTIC, COMMERCIAL OR INDUSTRIAL IN NATURE.
WITH WATER BECOMMING A MORE AND MORE IMPORTANT, SCARCE COMMODITY AS DEMAND INCREASES, MANY WATER SAVING IDEAS AND PRODUCTS HAVE AND ARE BEING DEVELOPED. THE CONSERVATION OF WATER IS BECOMMING EVER MORE IMPORTANT.
WITH WATER RESERVES BEING STRECHED TO THE LIMIT, WATER AUTHORITIES ARE ACTIVELY ENCOURAGING THE PUBLIC AND INDUSTRY TO CONSUME LESS. HOWEVER, VAST QUANTITIES OF RECOVERABLE WATER ARE LOST VIA THE NATIONS DRAINAGE SYSTEM. IN ADD IT ION, WITH THE INCREASING INTRODUCTION OF DOMESTIC WATER METERS, THE ABILITY TO RECOVER, STORE AND USE "?REE" WATER IS BECOMMING MORE IMPORTANT.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION THERE IS PROVIDED A WASTE WATER RECOVERI SYSTEM. THIS INVOLVES THE COLLECTION OF WASTE WATER IN A TANt AND HAS A MEANS OF DELIVERING BY PUMPING THE RECOVERED WATER TO W.C. CISTERN/S VIA INTERCONNECTING PIPEWORK. VARIOUS COMPONENTS ARE THUS INTERCONNECTED TO PROVIDE A FULLY WORKING SYSTEM, SPECIFICALLY INTENDED FOR THE RECOVERY AND STOREAGE OF WASTE WATER FOR THE PURPOSE OF RE-USE.
A SPECIFIC EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION WILL BE DESCRIBED HEREIN BY WAY OF WRITTEN EXPLANATION WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANTING DRAWING IN WHICH: - FIGURE 1. ILLUSTRATES THE OUTLINE COMPOSITION OF THE RECOVERY SYSTEM COMPONENTS: FIGURE 2. DETAILS THE CONTROL COMPONENT LAYOUT WITHIN THE RECOVERY SYSTEM.
FIGURE 3. ILLUSTRATES A SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM OF THE RECOVERY SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
REFERING TO THE DRAWING FIGURE 1. THE WASTE WATER RECOVERY SYSTEM COMPRISES A COLLECTION TANK (1) WHICH COLLECTS RAINWATER FROM THE BUILDINGS GUTTER (2) AND WASTE WATER FROM THE BATH/SHOWER, HANDWASH BASIN DRAIN (3) VIA INTER- CONNECTING PIPEWORK. A DIVERTER(4) IN THE DRAINPIPE (5) ALLOWS EXCESS WASTE WATER TO DRAIN OR SOAKAWAI WHEN THE COLLECTION TANK (1) IS FULL.
WASTE WATER ENTERING THE COLLECTION TANK PASSES THROUGH A BASKET FILTER (6) INTO WHICH CLEANSING/DISINFECTING CHEMICALS OR AGENTS CAN BE PLACED.
IN THE EVENT OF INSUFFICIENT WASTE WATER BEING AVAILABLE, A BALL FLOAT VALVE (7) CONTROLLED MAINS SUPPLY MAINTAINS A MINIMUM LEVEL WITHIN THE COLLECTION TANK (1) AT WHICH THE SYSTEM WILL FUNCTION. WASTE WATER FLOWS FROM THE COLLECTION TANK THROUGH A FILTER (8) AND VIA INTERCONNECTING PIPEWORK TO THE WEATHERPROOF CONTAINER (9) WHICH HOUSES THE ELECTRICALLY DRIVEN PUMP (10), PRESSURE SWITCH (11), PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE (12), NON-RETURN VALVE (13), AND ELECTRICAL TIMER CONTROL (14) AS ILLUSTRATED IN FIG. 2. REFERRING TO FIG.3 THE PUMPED SUPPLY (15) IS CONNECTED INTO A MAINS SUPPLY (16) TO THE W.C.
CISTERN/S (17) AND ENTERS VIA THE BALL FLOAT VALVE (18). WITH THE W.C.
CISTERN/S FULL, SYSTEM PRESSURE IS RETAINED BETWEEN THE CLOSED BALL FLOAT VALVE (18) AND THE NON-RETURN VALVE (13). ON OPPERATING THE W.C. CISTERN/S FLUSH, THE BALL FLOAT VALVE (18) OPENS. THE RESULTANT PRESSURE DROP IS DETECTED BY THE PRESSURE SWITCH (11) AND HAD THE EFFECT OF CLOSING THE CONTACTS OF THE SWITCH. THE CLOSING OF THE CONTACTS INITIATES THE STARTING OF THE TIMING CYCLE FOR THE ELECTICALLY DRIVEN PUMP (10). THE DURATION OF THE PUMP RUNNING TIZE BEING COVERNED BY THE ELECTRICAL TITTER CONTROL (14).
THE TIMER ALLOWS SUFFICIENT PUMP RUNNING TINE TO RE-FILL THE W.C. CISTERN/S (17) AND RESTORE SYSTEM PRESSURE BETWEEN THE CLOSED BALL VALVE (18) AND THE NON-RETURN VALVE (1 3). WITH SYSTEM PRESSURE RESTORED THE CONTACTS OF THE PRESSURE SWITCH (11) ARE HELD OPEN. IN ORDER TO GOVERN AND PREVENT EXCESS SYSTEM PRESSURE A RELIEF VALVE (12) IS INCORPORATED.
AS A PRECAUTION AGAINST FREEZING, THE COLLECTION TANK AND ALL EXTERIOR INTERCONNECTING PIPEWORK ARE THERMALLY INSULATED.
IN ORDER TO FACILITATE MAINTENANCE; THE SYSTEM INCORPORATES SERVICE STOP COCKS ( 19# AND (20). IN ADDITION A STOP COCK (21) IS INSTALLED INTO THE MAINS SUPPLY (16). TO ALLOW A MAINS SUPPLY TO THE W.C. CISTERN/S (17) DURING PERIODS OF MAINTENANCE OR FAILURE OF THE PUMPED SYSTEM. NON-RETURN VALVES (22) AND (23) ENSURE BACK FLOW FROM THE WASTE WATER SYSTEM INTO THE MAINS SUPPLY IS PREVENTED.
A STOP COCK VALVE (24) IS INSTALLED WITHIN THE SYSTEM TO ENABLE THE CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION TANK (1) TO ALSO BE: UTILISED FOR THE PURPOSE OF GENERAL USE WHERE AN EXTERNAL PUMPED SUPPLY IS BENIFICIAL.
