Abstract

A toy wheel is held on a shaft by means of a push on spring washer. The washer is received in a counterbore and the shaft is stepped so that the wheel is held without axial movement. The uncapped washer resembles a railway wheel.

Description

A WHEEL SET FOR TOY VEHICLES This invention relates to a wheel set for toy vehicles.
Current methods of retaining wheels made from plastic, wood etc. use either a capped spiderfixz7figure 5) which allow axial displacement of the wheels.Or smooth domed ends (figure 6) larger than the wheel axle hole diameter in order to retain the wheels. These are fixed to the axle by press fit or some other method. However there is normally excesive movement in the wheels with these methods.Others methods include moulding the wheels directly to the axle (figure7) etc.
The objective of this invention is to produce a simple method of attaching wheels for a toy vehicle to an axle that has the appearance of railway wheels but is safe and strong in use.Provides no movement of the wheels axially long the axle to ensure that the wheels remain at a fixed width to give the vehicles a smooth ride by avoiding wheel wobble.
AccoXrAing to the present invention the wheels are retained by use of a uncapped spiderfix. These are usually designed to be enclosed within the toy. However by counterboring the wheels and placing a radius on the end of the axles it is possible to produce a strong and safe fixing by pressing the wheels against a stepped axle.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 Shows front and side views of the wheel sectioned to show the counterbore.
Figure 2 Shows front and side view ofthe axle with stepped diameters and radius ends.
Figure 3 Shows front and side view of a uncapped spiderfix.
Figure 4 Shows front sectioned view of complete assembly.
rom Figure 5 Shows the capped spiderfix method of retaining.
Figure 6 Shows a typical smooth domed end method of retaining.
Figure 7 Shows a typical method of moulding the wheels to the axle.
Refering to the drawings the uncapped spiderfix figure 3 is located in a counterbore figure 1 on a stepped diameter axle figure 2 & the whole assemble is shown in figure 4.
