Abstract

239,954. Schmidt, F. C. July 1, 1924. Cooling-towers. - Series of longitudinally-inclined laths 18 set in staggered formation and converging to one or more common places of discharge 20 are arranged below the usual horizontal laths 17 or grids so as to direct the liquid dropping from the grid-work into common streams or sheets and thereby maintain unimpeded passages for the ascent of cooling-air through the tower. The laths 18 may be of rectangular, triangular or segmental section, with their flat sides uppermost, or of other section such that some of the liquid falling on to the laths may spread over and wet the sides of the laths to increase the cooling-effect. Upright boards 21 may be provided to form shoots for directing the liquid streams into the collecting-pond 19. Specification 6496/15 is referred to.
