Abstract

239,307. Lumsden, T. June 14, 1924. Indexing; driving machines.-In dividing. mechanism for the rotary tables of grinding, boring, milling, planing, shaping, slotting &c. machines of the kind comprising spaced stops secured to the underside of the table and adapted to coact with a plug attached to the machine saddle &c. so as to be movable out of the path of the stops each stop is provided with an axially adjustable screw whose end is adapted to be clamped against the plug. Means are also provided for controlling the movements of the plug, for operating the. table rotating and traversing clutch and for releasing the table-tripping stop. The stops 10, Fig, 1, of which there may be any number, are attached to the under-side of the rotary table and carry adjustable screws 13 which are clamped by a dog 19 against the plug 12 mounted in a bracket 14 secured to the saddle 15. The dog may be swung out of line with the stop 10 by a handle 21 and is clamped by a handle 23 and screw 24. The plug is formed with rack teeth engaged by a pinion 16 which is rotated to raise or lower the plug out of line with the stop by a shaft 17 connected by a rod 35. Fig. 3, to a control lever 26. The lever is pivoted at 29 on a. shaft 31 rotatable. in a bracket 32 attached to the machine frame, the shaft 31 carrying a lever 40 connected by a rod 91 to a pair of clutches 62, Fig. 5, for rotating the table 11 and traversing the saddle 15 respectively. The lever 26 works in a grate. 27, the table rotating clutch being engaged at 39a and 42, the saddle traversing clutch at 43 and the positions 38, 39 corresponding to the lowered and raised portions of the plug 12. In operation, the saddle and table are fed to the cutter for machining until a stop 44 on table acts through a lever 48 and rod 51 to rotate the shaft 31 and stop The traverse, which is then reversed, the stop 44 being disengaged by moving the lever to position 60 and withdrawing the shaft 31 axially against springs 67. Fig. 3. The stop 10 is then released by the handle 23 and the lever 26 moved to position 42 to lower the plug 12 and start the rotation of the table, whereupon the plug is raised again and the rotation continued by moving to position 39a. When the next stop 10 meets the plug it is locked by the handle 23 and the lever 26 is moved to 43 to feed the table to the cutter again.
