Abstract
A composite modular support plate for interlocking electrical equipment comprises a metal frame (2,7,8) which snap connects with a plastics material support member (9), the said support member (9), having a plurality of apertures (15) for the snap connection of electrical accessories. Each aperture may contain a latch (16). The support plate may be formed with interlocking features (19,20) which may engage like features of another plate to interlock therewith.

"COMPOSITE MODULAR PLATE FOR INTERLOCKING ELECTRICAL
EQUIPMENT" The present invention relates to electrical control, signalling and safety equipment, and relates more particularly to an interlocking modular plate.
The object of the invention is to provide a plate for electrical equipment, particularly interlocking equipment, suitably connected to a reinforcing metal frame, the said plate/frame assembly being capable of being snap-interlocked with other plates in order to provide functional modules.
The use of plates designed to house several electrical devices such as switches, sockets, control and/or signalling devices, is known.
However, the methods of connecting a plurality of plates for subsequently housing them in interlocking boxes frequently give rise to problems with their correct alignment, with the result that these can sometimes be in incorrect positions at the time when they are fixed in the interlocked box.
A further problem is that relating to the robustness of the plates at the time when they are fixed, which is normally done by means of screws.
The aim of this invention is to overcome the abovementioned disadvantages through the use of a composite modular plate.
According to the present invention there is provided a composite modular plate for interlocking electrical equipment,
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
comprising a metal frame intended to make a snap connection with a plastics material support member, the said support member having a plurality of apertures for the snap connection of electrical equipment.
The present invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the appended indicative and nonrestrictive drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the metal frame of the plate in question, viewed from below ; Figure 2 shows the housing support for the electrical equipment, in perspective view ; Figure 3, shows the coupled frame and support, in a perspective view from beneath; Figure 4 shows the coupled frame and support in cross-section along the arrows A-A in Figure 3; Figure 5 shows the coupled frame and support seen in plan from beneath ; Figure 6 shows the modular connection between plates in detail; and Figures 7,7a and 7b diagrammatically show some dismantled views of the plate.
In the said drawings, a metal frame 1, of substantially rectangular shape, comprises two flat end portions 2 provided
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
with reinforcing plates 3 at right angles, the said plates 3 having apertures 4.
Along the long sides of the frame flat portions 2, a plurality of recesses 5 and teeth 6 are provided. Two fins 7 at right angles to flat portions 2, provided with apertures 8, are also provided along the said long sides of the frame 1.
Flat portion 2, with the part provided with recesses 5 and teeth 6, defines an opening which is designed to receive a matching support 9. Said support 9 comprises a box member of plastics material having a flat upper portion 10 defining a frame and provided on its short sides 11 with holes 12 corresponding with corresponding holes 13 provided on frame 1 for fixing the plate in its working position.
Support 9 also has two side walls 14 provided with a plurality of openings 15 within which are provided elastic tongues 16 for the snap connection of functional devices such as switches and other electrical equipment (not shown). said side walls 14 are connected together by means of two other walls 17 on each of which is provided a pair of elastic tongues 18. First connection means 19 and second connection means 20, which are arranged to mate with similar means located on other plates, are provided on side walls 14 (Figure 6).
The plate therefore comprises a supporting metal frame 1, which is designed to receive a support 9 of plastics material, said support 9 being capable of being snap-linked to frame 1 through at least elastic tongues 18 acting together with apertures 4 present on plate 3. The resilient connection of means 19 and 20 with supplementary similar means provided on adjacent supports also makes it possible to achieve precise

alignment between a plurality of plates (Figures 7, 7a and 7b).
Claims (4)
