Abstract
237,422. Bailey, J., and Gee, E. July 10, 1924. Endless materials, treating with liquids; winch type.-A machine in which woollen, worsted or cotton fabric can be both dyed and washed off, or in which a union fabric may have its woollen portion first dyed, then washed off, and its cotton portion dyed and the fabric again washed off, comprises a vat a above which is mounted a pair of rollers c, d, the upper being pressed down yieldingly but being capable of being raised clear of the lower; a trough j below the lower roller and provided with perforations j<1> in the base, covered by a sliding-member k which in one position covers these perforations and at the same time opens an outlet j<2>, while in the other position the liquor caught by the trough is free to discharge through the perforations into the vat; a draught-board m either fixed or hinged and connected to the driving-mechanism in such a manner as to act as a stop-motion; a guide roller l above the draught-board and a fluted guide roller b on the other side of the pressing rollers c, d and by means of which the loops of fabric are caused to fall in folds on the sloping floor of the vat; perforated pipes s for projecting jets of water on to the fabric passing to and from the squeezing rollers and a perforated partition a<1> behind which is arranged a perforated steam pipe b. In use, the fabric is passed in rope form in several loops over the rollers c and guide rollers l, p, the loops being kept separate by the draughtboard m; the ends of the fabric are then sewn together. The vat is filled with dye liquor, the machine set in motion, and the sliding-member k arranged so as to permit liquor caught by the trough to return to the vat. Dyeing completed, the exhausted liquor is discharged through an outlet a<3>, the top roller d being lowered to squeeze the material, and the material washed by jets of water from the pipes s. In the case of union fabrics, the vat is then charged with the cotton dye liquor and the machine operated for the necessary time; after dyeing, the member k is shifted to close the perforations j<1> of the trough j and to open the outlet j<2> so that liquor squeezed out on lowering the upper roller is collected by the trough and delivered to a storage tank. The cutlet j<2> is subsequently closed and the material washed with water as before. Finally, the ends of the material are severed, and the fabric is run off over the roller v.
