237,195. Stauter, D. April 20, 1925. Mowing-machines.-In cutting-apparatus comprising leaf-shaped knives a oscillating about pivot pins m, the knives a are slotted where they fit over the pivot pins m and the driving-bar h is guided by links r so as to impart forward and backward movements to the knives longitudinally of the machine in addition to the oscillating movements. Rollers m<1> are mounted on the pins m and the knives a are provided with lever arms p pivotally octinected to the driving-bar h which is reciprocated by a crank and connecting- rod. Counter-knives b, finger-knives c, and fingers d are fixed on the cutter-beam f, the front ends of the knives c being secured in the fingers d. Each knife a makes four cuts for each revolution of the crank. The driving-rod h is held in place by guides i, and the knives a are pressed down by a bar formng a stiffening- bar for a hinged cover-plate.
