Abstract
A pair of swimming/diving goggles includes two rigid lenses 1 and two padding members 2. Each rigid lens 1 has an annular flange 11 with at least on engaging member, 111. Each padding member 2 includes a receiving portion 21 with an engaging groove 211 for receiving the annular flange 11 of an associated said lens 1. The engaging groove 211 has an extension groove 212 for engaging with the engaging member 111 of the associated lens 1. The engaging member 111 may also extend in a direction transverse to the annular flange 11. An elastic annular extension 22 is also shown.
Description
2355311 1 Connection between a Padding Member and a Lens for
SwjmmingDiving Goggles
2 Background of the Invention
3 1. Field of the Inventio
4 The present invention relates to an improved -connection between a padding member and a lens for swimming/diving goggles to prevent reliable engagement and waterproof capability.
6 2. Description of the Related A
7 Figs. 7 and 8 of the drawings illustrate a pair of typical swimming goggles that includes 8 two lenses P, two padding members 2', a bridge 3', and a strap 4'. Each lens l' is made of 9 rigid material and includes an inner connecting section 11' for connecting with the bridge 3', an outer connecting section 12' for connecting with the strap 4', and a Range 13' for 11 connecting with the padding member 2'. Each padding member 2' is made of tensible soft 12 material and has an inner diameter slightly smaller than an outer diameter of the lens 1'. Each 13 padding member 2' includes a connecting portion 2 1' on an outer side thereof, the connecting 14 portion 21' having an annular groove 21 V for fittingly receiving the flange 13' of the associated lens 1'. Each padding member 2' further includes an elastic annular padding section 16 22' formed on an inner side thereof to provide an intimate contact with an eye socket of the user. Nevertheless, as shown in Fig. 9, when the padding member 2" is impinged, a clearance exists between the flange 13' of the lens V and the associated padding member 2', and in 19 some cases, the padding member 2' disengages from the lens 1'. As a result, leakage of water occurs.
21 Fig. 10 of the drawings illustrates another connection arrangement between the lens 5' 22 and the associated padding member 2', wherein the lens 5' includes an annular groove 5 V and 23 an outer annular flange 52'. In assembly, an end portion of the connecting portion 21' is 24 received in the annular groove 51' and the outer annular flange 52' is received in the annular groove 21 P of the padding member 2'. Nevertheless. the disadvantage of water leakage and 26 possible disengagement of the padding member 2' from the lens I still occurs when the 27 padding member 2' is impinged or stretched outward.
1 I The present invention is intended to provide an improved connection arrangement that 2 mitigates and/or obviates the above problems.
3 Summary of the Invention
4 In accordance with the present invention, a pair of swimming/diving goggles includes two rigid lenses and two padding members made of tensible material. Each rigid lens has an 6 annular flange with an engaging member. Each padding member includes a receiving portion 7 with an engaging groove for receiving the annular flange of an associated said lens. The 8 engaging groove has an extension groove for engaging with the engaging member of the 9 associated lens.
Other objects, advantages, and novel features of the invention will become more I apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the
12 accompanying drawings.
13 Brief Description of the Drawings
14 Fig. I is a perspective view, partly exploded, of a pair of swimming goggles in accordance with the present invention; 16 Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along line B-B in Fig. 1; 17 Fig. 3 is an exploded perspective view of a pair of diving goggles in accordance with the 18 present invention; 19 Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the pair of diving goggles in Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken along line C-C in Fig. 4; 21 Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a pair of modified diving goggles in accordance with the 22 present invention; 3 Fig. 7 is a perspective view, partly exploded, of a pair of swimming goggles according 24 to prior art;
Fig. 8 is a sectional view taken along line A-A in Fig. 7-1 26 Fig. 9 is a schematic sectional view similar to Fig. 8. illustrating use of the pair of 27 swimming goggles in Fig. 7, and 2 I Fig. 10 is a sectional view similar to Fig. 9, illustrating use of another pair of the 2 swimming goggle according to prior art.
3 Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiments
4 Referring to Figs. I and 1, a pair of swimming goggles in accordance with the present invention includes two rigid lenses 1, two padding members 2, a bridge (not labeled), and a 6 strap (not labeled). Each lens I includes an annular flange I I with an engaging member I 11 7 (Fig. 2) extended in a transverse direction for engaging with an associated padding member 2.
8 Each padding member 2 is made of tensible material and includes a receiving portion 21 9 formed on an outer side thereof for receiving the associated lens 1. Each padding member 2 further includes an elastic annular extension 22 formed on an outer side thereof to provide an I I intimate contact with an eye socket of the user. The receiving portion 21 ftirther includes an 12 engaging groove 211 for receiving the annular flange I I of the associated lens 1, wherein the 13 engaging groove 211 has an extension groove 212 for fittingly receiving the engaging member 14 111 of the associated lens 1.
In assembly, as the padding member 2 is made of tensible material, the padding member 16 2 is deformed by external force to allow engagement of the engaging groove 211 with the 17 annular flange I I and engagement of the extension groove 212 with the engaging member I 11.
18 By such an arrangement, when the padding member 2 is impinged or stretched, disengagement 19 of the padding member 2 from the associated lens I is prevented, as the engagement therebetween is reliable, best shown in Fig. 2. Thus, the pair of swimming goggles is reliably 21 waterproof In an alternative design of the invention, the annular flange I I have two engaging 22 members I I I on opposite sides thereof, and the engaging groove 211 of each padding member 2 3 2 has two extension grooves 212.
24 Referring to Figs. 3 through 5, when applied to a pair of diving goggles, each lens 3 of the pair of diving goggles may include an annular flan e 31 with an engaging member 3 11, ID 9 117 zl 26 and the padding member 4 of the pair of diving gogcles may include a receiving portion 41 0 t:k 27 with an engaging groove 411 and an extension groove 412 to achieve the required reliable 3 I engagement and waterproof capability. Fig. 6 illustrates a modified embodiment, wherein the 2 bridge member in Fig. 3 is omitted without adversely affecting the required reliable 3 engagement and waterproof capability.
4 Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without 6 departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
