Abstract
An infuser for tea, coffee and herbs has a basket 1 with perforations, attached to a handle 2. The basket has a cover 3 attached to a 'spring' strip 4. The substance for infusion is scooped into the basket and is trapped in it by assembling the two parts as shown on Figure 3. During infusion the trapped substance is squeezed repeatedly in the basket by pressing the basket cover strip against the basket handle and finally squeezed 'dry' outside the infusion container before opening the basket and rejecting the spent substance. The infuser is assembled by sliding the cover 3 into the basket 1, ensuring that a ferrule 5 is engaged over the handle 2. <IMAGE>
Description
TEA, COFFEE AND HERBS INFUSER
This invention relates to a tea, coffee and herbs infuser0 Tea bags became popular and are widely used because, primarily, they offer the convenience of making a 'cup of tea' quickly, without need of a tea pot. Popular herbs are available also on the market in perforated bags similar to tea bags.
Notwithstanding the convenience, tea bags have a number of negative points; they contain a fixed measure of tea which cannot be changed, only more popular brands of tea are generally available in tea bags spent tea bags are messy in handling, making staining drips of tea almost unavoidable and, weight for weight, tea in tea bags is dearer than loose tea.
The present invention remedies all these shortcomings.
According to this invention, there is a basket with perforations in its walls to contain the infused substance. The basket has a close fitting cover, also with perforations, which can be moved in and out within the basket, thus squeezing the substance in it.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:- Figure 1 shows the basket cover attached to a 'spring' strip, with a ferrule at the other end of the strip,
Figure 2 shows the basket of the infuser attached to a handle,
Figure 3 shows the infuser assembled.
Referring to the drawings, the infuse has a basket 1 with perforated walls and bottom, attached tc a handle 2. A basket cover 3,.also with perforations, is attached to a strip 4 which at its other end is shaped into a ferrule 5, to slip over the end of the handle 2.
The strip is springy, be by at e 4 deflected in the assembled infuser by squeezing towards the handle 2.
In use, a quantity of the substance for infusion is scooped into the basket such as to give the desired strength of the infusion. The infuser is assembled by sliding the cover 3 into the basket 1, ensuring that the ferrule 5 is engaged over the handle 2.
The basket is then imnersed in a liquid, e.g. hot water in a cup.
The infusion is helped by squeezing the strip 4, thus making the cover 3 to be moved in the basket 1.
On completion, the spent substance is squeezed 'dry' outside the liquidt the basket 1 is opened by sliding the cover 3 away and it is emptied by tapping out into a waste receptacle.
Claims (6)
1 An infuser comprising a basket with perforations, attached to a handle, a basket cover also with perforations, attached to a strip, the basket cover being made for free movement up and down within the basket and the end of the cover strip being made to engage with the end of the basket handle when the infuser is assembled.
2 An infuser as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the basket and the basket cover are engaged during assembly so that the substance for infusion is trapped in the basket, that is the basket cannot open unintentionally.
3 An infuser as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein the basket cover strip has at its end a ferrule which is slipped over the basket handle during assembly of the infuser and slipped out during disassembly.
4 An infuser as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 3 wherein the basket cover strip is shaped such that by sqeezing the strip towards the handle the basket cover is pushed towards the bottom of the basket.
5 An infuser as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 4 wherein the basket strip is made of a 'springy' material of suitable rigidity such that when the squeeze of the strip against the basket handle is released, the basket cover returns towards the top of the basket.
6 An infuser substantially as described herein with reference to
Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
