Description

CARRYING HANDLE This invention relates to a carrying handle for carrying bags such as plastic carrier bags used for shopping.
As is known such bags have loops by which they are carried. However, these loops tend to cut into the hand, and it is therefore desirable to provide a carrying device by means of which these bags can be carried in a more comfortable manner.
According to the present invention, there is provided a carrying handle for carrying a bag, comprising a handle portion whereby the handle can be grasped by the hand, and a single hook portion on which the bag can be hung.
Preferably, the handle portion comprises a generally flat body having therein an opening through which the fingers pass when the handle is grasped, and the hook portion extends to one side of said body from a lower portion thereof.
Preferably, the opening is partially or completely surrounded by a rim extending to one side of said body.
Preferably, at the upper part of the opening, the rim is adapted to the shape of the fingers.
Reference will now be made, by way of example, to the drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a carrying handle of the invention; Fig. 2 is a view of one edge of the carrying handle shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a view from the rear of the carrying handle shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a view of one edge of another carrying handle of the invention; Fig. 5 is a view from the front of the carrying handle shown in Fig. 4; and Fig. 6 is a view from the rear of the carrying handle shown in Fig. 4.
Referring to Figures 1 to 3, the carrying handle consists of a handle portion 1, whereby the carrying handle may be grasped by the hand, and of a hook portion 2 on which bags to be carried are hung.
Referring to Figures 4 to 6, the carrying device again consists of a handle portion 1 and a hook portion 2. In this case, the handle portion 1 consists of a generally flat body 3 that, at its lower end, joins the hook portion 2. Extending from the plane of this flat body 3, there is a rim 4 extending around the opening 5 in the handle portion 1. At the upper part of the opening 5, this rim 4 is adapted to the shape of the four fingers of the hand so as to improve the comfort of the carrying handle in use. The rim 4 tapers towards the body 3, in the downward direction, and extensions 6 of the rim 3 meet the face of the body 3.
The hook portion 2 has an outwardly extending lip 7, to make it easier to hang bags on the hook portion.
The carrying handle shown in the Figures is preferably made of a plastics material, preferably an injection moulded plastics material.
