Variable-speed gearing.-A four-speed toothed or chain gear in which the changes are effected by moving double clutches p<1>, p, Fig. 5, upon the main b and countershaft a, respecitvely, is operated by a revoluble slotted cam disc S, Fig. 3, locked by a spring plunger w. The clutches p p' are engaged by forks q, q<1>, Fig. 6, sliding on a bar r equidistant from and parallel to the shafts a, b. Lugs u, u<1>, Fig. 3, projecting from the forks engage in the cam slots t, t'. A peripheral notch x for neutral position is smaller than the notches v for gear positions. The cam s is turned by a crank y, Fig. 6, and rod z. The invention is suitable for motor-cycles.
