Abstract
220,279. Krupp Akt.-Ges. Friedrich- Alfred-Hitte, F. Aug. 8, 1923, [Convention date]. Atmospheric g a s burners; burners, mounting and adjusting.-In a converter A provided with the usual tuyeres a<1>, a separate blast device C, D is provided by which air, combustible gases, or a mixture of air and gas is introduced into the converter from above. The pipe C, closed at its lower end, is movably mounted in a column B, composed of two parts, the lower part being connected to an hydraulic press so that water under pressure may be introduced therein to raise the pipe C. Apertures c<3> in the pipe allow air &c. introduced by a pipe b<2> in the upper part of the column B into the space b<1>, and thus into the pipe C. A bent pipe D with a nozzle d<2>, by which the air &c. is introduced into the converter A, is secured to the pipe C by a flexible ball joint c<4>, d'. The nozzle, d<2> is protected by refractory material d<3>. In operation, the pipe C is raised by introducing water into the lower part of the column B, then rotated by worm gearing c<1>, c<2> until the nozzle d<2> is over the opening a2 of the converter A and then lowered into the converter by withdrawing water from the column B.
