Description

DOOR OR PANEL FITTING JIG DEVICE This invention relates to a door or panel fitting jig device BACK-RDUtO It has always been found difficult and time consuming in the past to fit doors onto either door frames or door linings due to the need to both ensure the correct fit within the door opening but at the same time having to vertically support the door itself off the floor or ground and having to align with the door frame or lining, so as to then mark or scrib the positions of hinges from the door onto the frame or lining. This can be a two person operation.
The first operation required before the door can be fitted involves the fitting of the hinges to the door itself by laying the door over onto it's side, marking the position of each hinge, cutting out the slots inorder to recess the hinges using a hammer and chishel, drilling and screwing the hinges into place. This operation requires the door to be held firmly in place on it's side which is currently carried out by means of proping it up against something such as a wall or chairs otherwise having a second person to support it.
This is found unsatisfactory and sometimes dangerous since the door weeps oving about making accurate carpentry work difficult and is further complicated due to the door then having to be turned over onto it's opposite side for the fitting of locks.
The next operation involves the standing of the door into it's upright position against the frame or lining with the placing of suitable wedges under the door inorder to ensure that the door fits into the door opening correctly, then followed by proping up the door to hold in this position again either using some kind of strut or by a second person giving assistance which is most time consuming and can be most unsafe especially when other building contractors may be working in the same area and having to regularly keep passing through the same doorway where the door is being fitted.
The position of the hinges already fitted to the door then have to be marked or scribed onto the door frame or lining and then the door has to be completely removed away from the doorway so as the slots can be cut into the frame or lining inorder to recess the other half of the hinge into the frame or lining.
The door then once again has to be re-positioned vertically up against the frame or lining by correctly aligning by placing the wedges under the door and properly supporting in place while screws are secured through the hinges until the door is fully fastened to the frame or lining, again this can be a two person operation and particularly difficult and time consuming in site conditions.
This invention considerably saves time and labour in the fitting operation and greatly improves the safety aspect in health and safety.
SUMMARY OF SnL INVENTION This invention relates to a device being a door fitting jig to hold and support in an upright position any width of door on either of it'8 two sides as shown in FIG 3 inorder to allow hinges and locks to be cut in and fixed onto the door and then to hold and support the door in it's upright vertical position so as the device, with the door being held and supported can then be pushed into the door opening and then offered up to the door frame or lining as shown in FIG 1 so as the door can be easily and quickly aligned and held in position off the floor so as hinges and catches can be fixed and secured so as the door is fitted to the frame or lining. It is also possible that when the door is on either or it's sides, the edges can be planed off.
This device allows doors to be very quickly fitted as a single handed operation, regardless of the door's size or width or weight and removes the need to keep manually lifting the door around the frame or to the frame or lining and safely supports the door either when in it's normal upright vertical position of when layed onto either of it's two sides, thus removing the need to support and hold same using struts, chairs, old boxes and such like, the door actually being clamped to the jig by mechanical means like ar s Rvovided.
The aries as described able to be adjusted horizontally for any width of door, the door itself being supported at it's base by a horizontal angle rail itself able to be adjusted in height at both ends by screw adjusters relative to the base of the jig device itself, so as to give infinite lifting or lowering of either side of the door and to provide fine adjustment for squareness of fitting of the said door into the doorway or door opening. it is also possible to use the device with ,onXy one of the arms in operation on one side with the other arm çompletely removed.
Once the door, fitted to the jig device has been adjusted in this way the jig complete with the door attached can be removed away from the door opening, frame or lining as many times as required, with ease, but still allowing the door to be set in the same height and squareness position relative to the floor or ground, such that when the jig with the door attached is re-introduced back into the door opening or to the frame or lining, it is still in the same position as was the case before.
A sliding stabilising bar is also provided, attached to the the base of the jig device to provide additional stability to the device with the door attached, when in normal use but which can be retracted for use when a door is to be fitted to a door frame or lining close up against a wall.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIG 7 shows a pictorial view of a door attached to the jig device.
FIG 2 is a sectional view as shown through line x-xJinFIG'1.
FIG 3 shows a pictorial view of a door supported on it's side.
DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENT According to the present invention there is provided a deer fitting jig device which comprises of a bue and detachable franc arrangement U shown in FIG 1 and in sectional view in FIG 2 whereby the base item 103 can be detached from the support frame item 102 by means of a location peg item 116 and fastener pin item 112 so as to allow the two components when detached to be easily be carried and stowed away when net in use. There is also a stability bar item 104 attached to the base item 103 by screw fastener item 115 such that when the said bar is extended it acts as a foot to give upright stability to the complete device when in normal use and the screw fastener secures is place. The aterial used for the device can be steel or any other.
At the top of the support frame item 102 there is a support bar itel 105 spanning froi one side to the other and having a slot running down the centre of its complete length into which either one or both of the aria items 106 can be located adjusted in a horizontal direction and secured into position by leans of screw fasteners itess 107 go as the said arms say extended outwards or inwards inorder to held and support a door or a panel of any size and thickness. The aria item 106 include bent or angled sections at each end with a screw fastener item 118 50 as to both fit around any thickness of door or panel and secure and retain sale together in a clasped situation.
Although both aria itel 106 are shown at each side of the door or panel ites 101, normally it is possible to carry out nest jobs using just one ef the arms to one of the sides. The arms item 106 can also be rotated through 90 degrees so as alternatively the doer or panel can be placed over and onto the jaws of the aria and again secured into position by screw fasteners items 118.
At the bottom of the support frame item 102 there is an angled section rail item 110 connected to the support frase item 102 at each end and has two elongated slots items 113 spaced apart. Located ever the said rail is a second angled section item 109 which has two screw fasteners items 111 positioned in the top flange, two shoulder type screws items 114 in the centre flange and a central lug bracket ite 121 located to item 109 with it' own screw fastener item 122 such as to allow the doer or panel item 101 to be also clasped and retained into position at the base of the device in addition to the top arm support by item 106 as previously described. The second angled section item 109 is connected to the fixed rail item 110 by the two shoulder screws items 114 such that item 109 can slide up or down vertically against item 110 freely inside the elongated slots itess 113, but be retained in position relative to each other. The height adjustment of item 109 relative to item 110 therefore being controlled by the two screw fasteners items 111.
With the door or panel item 101 retained onto the device by both the arm iten 106 at the top and the angled section item 109 at the bottom, it is therefore possible to adjust the height of the door or panel relative to the base of the device and therefore from the fleer or the ground itself but still held secure in any position by the device.
The device thus being able to be freely moved around the floor or ground level with the door or panel itel 101 attached so as if the complete itese and assembly is moved into a door opening within a door frame or door lining item 123, the door or panel can be adjusted both in vertical height off the floor or ground and ii squareness of alignment relative to the item 123 without the need to have the door or panel supported by other leans and wedged or packed up off the floor using other materials. Handles items 117 are also provided to facilitate the manual handling and movement of the device vith the doer er panel attached.
Having checked that the door or panel fits correctly into the doorway or door opening, the device and door is swung round so as the device is at right angles to the door frame or lining item 123 when the positions of the door hinges are marked onto the said door franc or lining and the device with the door still attached moved away so as to allow slots to be cut out in the door frame or lining item 123 to recieve the hinges recessed into the doer frame. The device with the door or panel attached then being roved back into position to align with the door frame or lining item 123 as previously described, following which the hinge. can then be fixed to the franc using screws in the normal way as is current practice. The clamping screw fasteners itei 118 and item 122 then being loosened and the device pulled away sideway from the door or panel ites 101 so as to detach fro each other thus leaving the the said door or panel freely hanging in position on the door frame or lining ites 123 off the floor or ground.
The second embodiment of this invention relate. to the other use of the device usually as an operation necessary prior to the sain application as previously described above so as to allow the upright support of the door or door lining when the saie is laid onto it's side for either work to be carried out on the side of the door or panel inorder to either plane or shave off material froi the side of the door or panel, or to cut in slots to accoiodate hinges to be recessed into the side and for securing by wood screws. Here FIG 3 the opposite side of the doer or panel which is having this work on lays flush with the side of the device so as when the device, with the door or panel attached, is laid over onto the floor or ground on the same side, the door or panel is held in an upright position by virtue or the return of the base ites 103 in relation to the frame of the device item 102,the sane being a heavy stable ass ia comparison to the lass of the door itself and therefore allowing work to be carried out on the door or panel iten 101 safely and easily using both hands without having to prep up or support the door or panel with boxes, chairs or other temporary struts which can sometimes cause accidents to occur. Items 106 and 121 again being used to clasp and retain the door or panel to the device and the device with the door or panel can be rotated back up into the vertical position, for alignment with the door franc or lining without having to re-located the door or panel on this door fitting jig device.
