Abstract
A recoiling animal tether 6 has a housing 4 from which the tether 6 can be repeatedly extended, and retracted by means of the tension force from a flat coiled spring 1. Clips 7A and 7B are used to attach one end of the tether to a fixed point and the other end to an animal. A weak link X is included for safety. <IMAGE>
Description
FLEX I GRAZE This invention relates to a flexible animal grazing system e.g. horses and ponies.
This is a device which negates the necessity for long or loose ropes, ties or chains (tethers) for animal grazing within limited areas and thus avoiding entanglement with such tethers.
According to the present invention there is provided a constant-force flat coil spring (1) located in a spool (2) and centrally anchored (3) a body in the form of two sides (4) held apart with necessary spacers (5) flexible nylon tape (6) and two spring clips (7A) and (7B). See Fissure 3. (8) is explained in full on sheet 2.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Fissure 1:- Shows in perspective the flexigraze in a retracted position.
Fissure 2:- Illustrates the flexigraze in an extended position.
Fissure 3:- Shows an open (exploded) view ie. with one side removed.
Referring to the drawing (Figure 3), the flexigraze device comprises:- a constant force flat coil spring (1), a spool housing for the spring (2), The spring central anchor (3), a body in the form of two sides only (4), necessary spacers (5), flexible nylon tape (6), and two spring clips (7A) and (7B), (8) is explained as follows:
The extension of the tether is limited (nearly at full extension) by doubling the tether (nylon tape) and sewing together thus preventing the tether from pulling through spacers 5D and 5E so that the spring cannot be overwound and broken by a pulling animal.
* - Also please note X which, although still flexible nylon tape. It is of a lesser breaking strain than (6): in case a tethered animal pulls back in a panic situation and overstrains the whole device thus the weakest link will break - this is easily replaceable by means of keyring type fasteners and a spare will be included with the device.
Claims (3)
1) The flexigraze is a device which automatically extends
and retracts the tether (flexible nylon tape) as the
animal approaches or retreats from the device and in this
way prevents the animal tangling with the tether.
2) The pull force needed from the animal is minimal as the
constant-force spring strength is similar only to those
used in normal retractable tape measures.
3) The flexigraze allows horses, ponies and beast to graze
when tethered to a fixed position e.g. lorry, trailer,
fence, without the need for a long rope (or similar) thus
avoiding the aforesaid animals from being entangled in
such long ropes.
