Abstract

A guy rope high lighter 1 is produced from a lightly coloured and/or fluorescent and/or luminescent rigid or semi-rigid plastics material and includes means for selectively attaching it to a guy rope of a tent. The high lighter may take the form of a rigid or semi-rigid rectangular, triangular, round, generally flat plastics material and may include in one of its edges slots 2 into which a guy rope 3 may locate for attachment purposes. <IMAGE>

Description

GUY ROPE HIGHLIGHTER This invention relates to guy rope highlighters.
Guy ropes are fundamental components used as supports for many types of tents, including frame tents, ridge tents and awnings (hereinafter referred to simply as "tents").
Guy ropes, however, are in many cases hazardous obstacles to the tent occupiers and others, especially for young children. This is due to the lack of visibility of the guy ropes at night and even during the day.
My earlier Patent Application No: nB 9321525.9 concerns a guy rope highlighter which takes the form of a ball separated into two semi-circular sections which are hinged at one edge. The guy rope highlighters of this present invention are improvements in or modifications of the highlighters of my earlier application.
According to the present invention there is provided a guy rope highlighter produced from a lightly coloured and/or fluorescent and/or luminescent rigid or semi-rigid plastics material which includes means for selectively attaching it to a guy rope of a tent.
The highlighter may take the form of a rigid or semirigid rectangular, triangular, round, generally flat plastics material and may include in one of its edges slots into which a guy rope may locate for attachment purposes.
In an alternative construction, the highlighter comprises an elongate sleeve which locates about a length of guy rope.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a side view of a guy rope highlighter in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 shows the guy rope highlighter of Figure 1 attached to a guy rope; and Figure 3 is a perspective view of a frame tent with the guy rope highlighter of Figures 1 and 2 in place.
Referring now to the drawings, the guy rope highlighter comprises a plastics rigid or semi-rigid body 1 in the form of a flag which has inset from one of its sides shaped slots 2. The body is lightly coloured and/or has fluorescent and/or luminescent properties.
In order to apply the guy rope highlighter, a tent guy rope 3 is threaded through the slots 2 and over that portion of the body edge disposed between the slots.
When so positioned the guy rope highlighter grips the guy rope as the guy rope is tightened. Removal of the guy rope highlighter from a guy rope is achieved by slackening the guy rope 3 and then unhooking the highlighter 1.
In an unillustrated embodiment, the highlighter comprises a suitably coloured, fluorescent and/or luminescent elongate sleeve which locates over a length of guy rope.
It will be appreciated that the highlighters described are merely exemplary of highlighters in accordance with the invention and that modifications can readily be made thereto without departing from the true scope of the invention.

Claims (9)

1. A guy rope highlighter produced from a lightly coloured and/or fluorescent and/or luminescent rigid or semi-rigid plastics material which includes means for selectively attaching it to a guy rope.
2. A guy rope highlighter as claimed in claim 1 wherein the attachment means comprises edge slots into which a guy rope may extend.
3. A guy rope highlighter as claimed in claim 2 wherein the edge slots are each shaped to include a relatively narrow mouth and an enlarged re-entrant section remote from the mouth.
4. A guy rope highlighter as claimed in claim 3 wherein two slots are positioned side by side along one edge of the highlighter.
5. A guy rope highlighter as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 whose surfaces are generally plane and which in plan is generally triangular.
6. A guy rope highlighter as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 whose surfaces are generally plane and which in plan is generally rectangular.
7. A guy rope highlighter as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 whose surfaces are generally plane and which in plan is generally circular.
8. A guy rope highlighter as claimed in claim 1 which is shaped to define an elongate sleeve capable of receiving within its bore a length of guy rope.
9. A guy rope highlighter substantially as herein described and as described with reference to Figures 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawings.
