Abstract

A display holder for holding posters and like replaceable advertising material comprises: (i) a set of corner portions 2 for forming the vertices of a polygonal frame; and (ii) a set of side portions 1 for forming the sides of the polygonal frame; each side portion being hingedly connected to two corner portions along a line parallel to the longitudinal axis of the side portion, whereby to form the polygonal frame and so that a portion of the under surface of the side portion can engage with a portion of the upper surface of a corner portion in clamping contact. <IMAGE>

Description

Display Holders The present invention is concerned with display holders for holding posters and like replaceable advertising material.
Basically, a display holder in accordance with the invention comprises: (i) a set of corner portions for forming the vertices of a polygonal frame; and (ii) a set of side portions for forming the sides of the polygonal frame; each side portion being hingedly connected to two corner portions along a line parallel to the longitudinal axis of the side portion, whereby to form the polygonal frame and so that a portion of the under surface of the side portion can engage with a portion of the upper surface of a corner portion in clamping contact.
In the following description, for the sake of simplicity, reference will be made only to rectangular display holders but, of course, the description applies, mutatis mutandis, to other polygonal frames such as triangular, pentangular etc.
The side and corner portions are preferably provided with resilient biassing means engaging therewith so as to urge them into clamping relationship, whereby a poster or the like may be held clamped between the side and corner portion.
In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, the resilient biasing means is similar to that described in GB-A-2005535, that is there is provided an elongate spring which is substantially planar when unstressed extending between a side portion and a corner portion and positioned with its opposite ends in channels of each of said portions, the length of the spring being greater than the distance between the channels whereby the spring has a bowed shape, the channel in the corner portion, when viewed in cross-section, being narrower at its entrance than at a location spaced therefrom to receive one end of the spring to allow said one end to move in said channel between positions adjacent opposite sides of said channel but not to be dislodged from the channel during pivotal operation of the side and corner portions, the arrangement being such that the spring biases the side portion into a closed position in clamping engagement with a display piece when the said one end is adjacent one side of the channel and into an open position removably to receive display indicia when the said one end is adjacent the other side of the channel.
A display holder in accordance with the invention is assembled from the appropriate number of corner portions and side portions, in the case of a rectangular holder, from four of each. In order to provide for holders of differing breadth size it is necessary only to use side portions of differing length, the size of the corner portions remaining constant. As a result, the invention provides a display holder assembly which be readily and conveniently manufactured in a number of sizes from two components, namely a set of generally invariant corner portions, and a set of side portions of varying length.
In order that the invention may be well understood reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a rectangular display holder in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a cross-section on the line A-A in Fig.
1 and showing a side portion and a corner portion in clamped relationship; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line B-B in Fig.
1 and showing a side portion and corner portion in open relationship.
As shown in the Fig. 1 of the drawings, a display frame in accordance with the invention comprises four side portions 1 and four corner portions 2, assembled together to form a rectangular frame. In Fig. 1, one of the side portions is shown in the open (clamped) position with respect to corner portions 2, whereas the remainder of the side portions are shown in the closed (clamped) position. Each corner portion comprises a pentangular base plate 3, two of the sides of the base plate being at right angles to each other. A pair of side-portion engaging members 4 are secured to base plate 3, each side having an elongate ribs formed in an outer edge thereof and extending outwardly of and generally parallel to one of the sides of base plate 3 at right angles to one another.
Each of side portions 1 is formed of generally downwardly arranged concave cross-section with, at its outer edge, a curved re-entrant portion 6 engaging with rib 5 inside the plate 4 whereby to form a hinge-like construction so that the side piece may be pivoted between a clamped position (see Fig. 2) and an open position (see Fig. 3). Side piece 1 is held in either of the open or closed positions (as shown in Figs. 2 or 3) by the resilient biasing action of a spring member 7 engaging in groove 8 in side piece 1.
As will be appreciated, in order to insert a poster or the like in the frame shown in the drawings, all of the side pieces are open to the open position, the poster then introduced into the frame, and the side pieces then closed.
As noted above, the length of the sides of a frame in accordance with the invention is principally determined by the length of the side pieces 1, so that frames of varying sizes may be produced simply by varying the length of side pieces 1.

Claims (3)

CLAIMS:
1. A display holder comprising: (i) a set of corner portions for forming the vertices of a polygonal frame; and (ii) a set of side portions for forming the sides of the polygonal frame; each side portion being hingedly connected to two corner portions along a line parallel to the longitudinal axis of the side portion, whereby to form the polygonal frame and so that a portion of the under surface of the side portion can engage with a portion of the upper surface of a corner portion in clamping contact.
2. A display holder as claimed in claim 1 in which the and corner portions are provided with resilient biasing means engaging therewith so as to urge them into clamping relationship, whereby a poster or the like may be held clamped between the side and corner portions.
3. A display holder as claimed in claim 1 substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
