Abstract
A modular, portable practice drum system in which striking discs are supported on completely independent, free-standing, highly manoeuvrable, rigid stands (Figure 1). The modular system also provides a completely independent, free-standing, bass drum practice unit (Figure 3). The system can therefore comprise one unit only or be expanded to an infinite number of units which can be placed in any floor/playing position. A ballast box (4) fitted to the independent, free-standing, bass drum practice unit and filled with dense material helps make the unit solid, deaden sound and resist movement. A bracket (3) for pedal attachment is provided and can be height-adjustable allowing for pedals with differing base plate thicknesses. This, coupled with the use of feet (6) tilting the unit, helps to maintain stability and (importantly) correct bass drum pedal stroke. Each individual free-standing practice unit in the modular system is completely independent with no interconnecting supports or strengtheners. <IMAGE>
Description
MODULAR, PORTABLE PRACTICE DRUM SYSTEM
The invention relates to a modular, portable practice drum system.
Practice drum kits are known which comprise of a single unit with a fixed number of pads on an interdependent supporting and strengthening framework which has to be self-assembled.
Therefore each individual pad is not free-standing, especially that for the bass drum pedal and positioning is restricted.
According to the present invention there is provided a modular practice drum system in which each striking unit is free-standing and supported by its own rigid stand, being highly manoeuvrable and not interdependent on one another for strength and support. They can be easily moved to any floor position to suit the user.
It follows also that the system is not limited to the number of free-standing striking units, but may be enlarged to any number of units.
Each striking disc stand unit provides for an adjustable striking disc head, allowing for tilt adjustment.
The modular system also provides for a free-standing bass drum practice unit, for use with a bass drum pedal.
Referring to the drawing, the modular striking disc stand unit can be made to variable height and comprises a firm supporting base(1), as shown in Figure 1. The striking disc is faced with a cushioning and sound-deadening material(2).
It is fastened onto the stand upright by, for example, a hinge or similar means and it is securely fixed at a particular tilt angle bg means of an adjustable bracket (not shown). This also allows the striking disc to be folded adjacent to the stand for storage and ease of transportation, as illustrated in Figure 2.
The invention provides for a modular free-standing bass drum practice unit within the system, which has a striking area of cushioning and sound-deadening material(2) for the bass pedal to hit, as illustrated in Figure 3. The pedal is secured to the unit by, for example, a bracket(3) at the base.
A ballast boys(4) is provided at the rear of the practice bass drum unit and is filled with dense material to make the whole unit sturdy and resist movement during use. In order to correctly position the bass drum practice unit within the modular system a removable base(5) is provided. In order that the bass pedal hits the striking pad at the correct position through its stroke, the bass drum practice unit can be provided with, for example, feet(6) on the removable ballast box base, which tilt the unit slightly forward and can also provide added stability and resistance to movement.
With reference to the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 shows one modular system striking disc stand unit.
(these can total one to an infinite number in a system).
Figure 2 shows the striking disc folded adjacent to the
stand for storage and ease of transportation (side view).
Figure 3 shows a modular system bass drum practice unit.
Claims (7)
1. A modular, portable practice drum system which comprises completely independent, free-standing, striking disc stand units and completely independent, free-standing, bass drum practice units.
2. A modular, portable practice drum system as claimed in
Claim 1 wherein is provided completely independent, freestanding units, with no interconnecting supports or strengtheners, which can be expanded from initially one unit only to an infinite number.
3. A modular, portable practice drum system as claimed in
Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the completely independent, free-standing, bass drum practice unit has a rear ballast box which can be filled with a dense material to provide rigidity, deaden sound and resist movement.
4. A modular, portable practice drum system as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the independent, free-standing, bass drum practice unit can have a removable base allowing it to be correctly positioned when used in the system.
5. A modular, portable practice drum system as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the independent, free-standing, bass drum practice unit can have a height-adjustable bracket helping to maintain stability of the unit in use with bass drum pedals of varying base plate thicknesses.
6. A modular, portable practice drum system as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the independent, free-standing, bass drum practice unit can have a means, for example feet on the base, for tilting the unit slightly forward so that the bass pedal hits the striking pad at the correct position in its stroke, to maintain reality and also provide added stability and resistance to movement.
7. A modular, portable practice drum system substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawing.
