Abstract

A printing press is mounted on a base having prefabricated gantry carriers 2 which are arranged at fixed distances from each other and on which are supported plates 3 of a predetermined standard length. The gantry carriers 2 preferably have conduits 4 inside them which are used to carry electrical lines and to supply fluid. Both the gantry carriers 2 and the plates 3 are made preferably of reinforced concrete, steel or cast iron. This arrangement is quick to assemble and versatile. <IMAGE>

Description

Stand for a printing press The invention relates to a stand for a printing press, in particular a web-fed rotary printing machine.
Some web-fed rotary printing machines are constructed as floor-type (or single-level) machines, in which all the components of the printing machine such as the roll exchanger, the feed unit, the printing units, the turning bar structure, the folding unit and the dryer, are constructed on one level. In some machines however the roll exchanger and the feed unit are constructed below the printing unit or units, in which case it is necessary to separate the roll exchanger and the feed unit from the printing unit or units by an intermediate ceiling. Such an intermediate ceiling is mounted on carriers.
From EP 0 020 886 Al there is known a base for a web-fed rotary printing machine which has a frame on the head end of which a printing unit is mounted. The frame of the base is made of reinforced concrete. In this concrete frame there is formed an externally prefabricated metal stand having several carrier elements at least partially accessible from the outside, such as metal plates or the like, and mounted or secured on these elements are paper-holding, paperdriving, paper-feeding and paper-changing devices of the printing machine. This frame therefore constitutes a concrete seat in local concrete, i.e. made on site in accordance with the dimensions of the individual printing units of the web-fed rotary printing machine.
In addition, the prefabricated metal stand has to be set up in the printing works first of all and then has to have shuttering applied and be cast with concrete.
After the concrete seat is finished, building inspection is necessary, and fixture inspection certificates for the concrete seat have to be presented. Also, because the individual dimensions of the printing units of the respective printing machines vary, the dimensions of the concrete seats on which the printing machine is mounted have to be correspondingly individually adapted.
It is the aim of the invention to produce a base or stand for a web-fed rotary printing machine which is considerably simplified with respect to the known base and which makes possible speedy, on-the-spot assembly without needing shuttering.
According to the invention there is provided a stand for a two-level printing press, having two or more prefabricated gantry carriers.
Due to the fact that the base has separate prefabricated gantry carriers which are preferably made of steel, steel-reinforced concrete or cast iron, there is a considerable saving in time and money when assembling the web-fed rotary printing machine.
Expenditure on shuttering on site is no longer necessary and the printing machine can be assembled much more quickly. The expenditure on construction and design for producing the frame is considerably reduced.
Because the gantry carriers are all constructed in the same way there is a saving in production.
A further advantage of this base is the fact that the individual gantry carriers can be easily moved and hence it is possible to adapt the whole printing machine after assembly. Gantry carriers of similar construction can be used for all printing machines.
There can also be uniform dimensions for the spaces between the gantry carriers. Two different grid or standard lengths are sufficient: a first grid length corresponds to the length of a printing unit, the second grid length corresponds to the length of a folding unit.
Advantageous developments can be seen in the subclaims. It is particularly advantageous for the gantry carriers to have integrated alignment edges on which can be laid plates which carry the printing units or folding units of the web-fed rotary printing machine.
These plates can be of standard lengths corresponding to the spacing between pairs of gantry carriers between which they extend.
Hollow slotted rails are also advantageously cast into the gantry carriers on which various structural elements of the web-fed rotary printing machine can be secured, for instance installations for supplying current, compressed air, lubricants and the like.
Another advantageous development is to have conduits inside the gantry carriers which are provided for receiving cables, pipes etc, for supplying energy and fluids to the web-fed rotary printing machine via its base.
By way of illustration an embodiment of the invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 shows a perspective view a stand for a webfed rotary printing machine and Fig. 2 shows a cross-section of the stand.
A web-fed rotary printing machine has a base or stand 1 (Fig. 1). Roll exchangers and traction units in the region defined by the base 1 are not shown here, nor are the printing units and folding units located on the base 1. The base 1 has three axially spaced gantry carriers 2 and horizontal plates 3 lying on the gantry carriers 2, extending between each axially spaced pair to form a floor or ceiling. The gantry carriers 2 are substantially inverted-U-shaped structures and stand on pedestal plates 20. Instead of putting the gantry carriers on pedestals 20 they can be partially sunk into prefabricated troughs or hollow boxes and secured in them. Like the plates 3, the gantry carriers 2 are made of steel, steel-reinforced concrete or cast iron.
The gantry carriers 2 have inside them conduits 4 through which cables, pipes and the like are guided for supplying electricity and fluid. In addition, the gantry carriers 2 have alignment edges 5 for securing and aligning the plates 3 and other carriers or structural components of the printing machine. The alignment edges 5 are used in particular for receiving the plates 3. Also, if the gantry carriers 2 are cast from reinforced-steel concrete, slotted rails can be cast in them to secure the plates 3 and to secure carriers and structural components of the printing machine. The plates 3 have slot-like transverse passages 30 through which the printing material webs pass from the roll exchangers to the printing units.
In addition, further apertures 31 are provided in the plates 3 (Fig. 2) and are used just like the conduits 4 in the gantry carriers 2 for carrying electrical lines or supplies of fluid. The plates 3 are tub- or trough-shaped, extending in the longitudinal direction, and on their side walls base plates 7 are supported by means of fasteners 6. Base plates 7 of this kind are known, for instance, from DE 93 16 412 U. The base plates 7 are used for receiving printing units 8. For its drive the printing machine has a longitudinal shaft 9 to which electric motors 11 are respectively connected by means of gearing 10. As shown in Fig. 2, these are secured on the side wall of the base plate 7; however, it is also possible to secure them on the outer side of the plate 3.
However, the outer side of the plate can also receive a bracket carrier 12 on which the electric motor 11 is supported. If the plate 3 is made of reinforced concrete, a slotted rail which is cast into the plate 3 is preferably used to secure the bracket carrier 12. However, it is possible to secure the bracket carrier 12 also by means of a slotted rail, or otherwise, on the side of the gantry carrier 2.
Instead of mounting the base plates 7 on the plates 3 it is also possible, in another embodiment (not shown here), to place the base plates 7 directly on the gantry carriers 2 and to screw the base plates 7 together.
Through the invention there is produced a base having gantry carriers 2 which are arranged preferably at fixed distances from each other and on which are supported plates 3, in particular in the form of concrete tubs, which have a corresponding standard length. The gantry carriers 2 preferably have conduits 4 inside them which are used to carry electrical lines and to supply fluid. Both the gantry carriers 2 and the plates 3 are made preferably of steel-reinforced concrete, steel or cast iron.
The invention also covers a method for assembling a printing press, in which first a suitable number of carriers 2 are assembled, preferably uniformly spaced in a line, to support the printing elements.
Preferably this is done by attaching plates 3 of uniform length, each plate supported by a pair of gantry carriers. The plates then form a ceiling for elements such as the roll exchanger and a floor for other elements such as the printing units themselves.
In this way the invention provides a versatile and modular system for double-decker presses.
