Abstract
An embossed precious metal foil ornament making method including steps of: photographing a pattern on a zinc plate; etching the zinc plate with nitric acid to form a raised die thereon; preparing a metal plate and rolling it into a metal foil of thickness 0.02m/m; pressure forming the metal foil by pressing it on the raised die of the etched zinc plate by a hydraulic press so as to obtain an embossed precious metal foil ornament. The invention also relates to the embossed precious metal foil ornament thus made, and to the raised die comprising a bottom elevation (1), at least one intermediate elevation (2) raised from the bottom elevation (1), and a top elevation (3) having a smooth surface raised from the at least one intermediate elevation (2). <IMAGE>
Description
THE MAKING METHOD OF EMBOSSED PRECIOUS METAL EOLL ORNAMENT
The present invention relates to an embossed precious metal toil ornament and a method of making such an embossed precious metal toil ornament.
Various precious metals, more particularly gold and silver are widely used for making ornaments and memorial coins. A memorial gold coin is generally embossed with a raised die, however, the die is limited to a small diameter within Scm. According to conventional precious metal ornament making methods, it is ditticult to obtain a toil type embossed precious metal ornament in any ot a variety of sizes and dies.
Further, a photograph can not be kept tor decades because it soon fades. Therefore, there is a demand to obtain a picture that can be kept for decades without causing any change.
The present invention has been accomplished under the aforesaid circumstances. It is therefore a principal object ot the present invention to provide a method of making an embossed precious metal foil ornament which is made of a gold or silver foil in thickness within O.02m/m having a true-to-lite die raised from the top surface thereof. It is another object of the present invention to provide an embossed precious metal foil ornament which can be made in the form of a stamp or picture used to cause a person or persons to remember.The method of making an embossed precious metal foil ornament of the present invention comprises steps ot photographing a pattern on a zinc plate, etching the zinc plate with nitrite acid to form a raised die thereon, preparing a metal sheet and rolling it into a metal foil of thickness O.Om/m, and pressure forming the metal foil by pressing it on the raised die of the etched zinc plate by a hydraulic press so as to obtain an embossed precious metal foil ornament. When finished, a raised die is formed on the metal toil, which die comprising a bottom elevation, at least one intermediate elevation raised from the bottom elevation, and a top elevation having a smooth surface raised from the at least one intermediate elevation.
Tiie present invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the annexed drawings, in which: Figures 1A and IB are flow charts showing the production procedure of the method of making an embossed precious metal foil ornament; and
Fig. 2 shows a finished product made according to the present invention;
Referring to Figures IA and 1B, the method of making an embossed precious metal foil ornament of the present invention comprises steps of: I. Preparing a zinc plate and coating the zic plate with a layer of photographic emulsion;
2.Placing a negative picture on the ziiic plate and photographing the image of the negative picture on the zinc plate;
3. Washing the zinc plate, then coating the printed area of the zinc plate with a layer of acidresisting paint, and then heat-drying the zinc plate;
4. Etching the zinc plate in a nitric acid bath; 5. A raised die is formed on the etched zinc plate;
6. Melting an ingot of gold (or silver) and casting it into a gold (or silver) plate in thickness within Um/m; .1. Softening the gold (or silver) plate by heating it at 6 C; 8.Rolling the softened gold (or silver) plate into a gold (or silver) foil of O.O2m/m thick with a mirror finished surface by a super finished rolling machine
9. Pressure forming the gold (silver) foil by pressing it on the raised die of the etched zinc plate by an about 2OOMT hydraulic press under 80MT oil pressure; and
10. An embossed precious metal foil ornament finished.
Referring to Figure 2, therein illustrated is a finished product of the embossed precious metal foil ornament, in which the raised die on the embossed precious metal foil ornament includes three gradations in elevation, namely, the bottom elevation 1 which is formed over the area corresponding to the deeply etched area on the etched zinc plate, the intermediate elevation 2 which raises from the first elevation 1, and the top elevation 3 which has a smooth surface raised from the intermediate elevation 2. The intermediate elevation 2 is a rugged surface to show gradations in highlights. The three elevations make the threedimensional die of the embossed precious metal foil ornament more prominent.
As an alternate form of the present invention, an embossed gold foil may be adhered to a background of silver foil.
