Description
Length Adjustable Elastic sand Means
The present invention relates to an elastic band means with releasable holders to allow an adjustment in length.
An elastic band means generally includes an elastic band with a hook at each of two ends thereof and are widely used in daily lives, e.g., to bind articles, for instance, on the carriers of motorcycles, or to be used in aerobic exercises. The elastic band means is not adjustable in length and thus results in inconvenience during the usage and manufacturing there for.
The present invention intends to provide an improved elastic band means which is adjustable in length.
The present invention provides an improved elastic band means including an elastic band with two ends, a hook member provided to each end of the elastic band, and a holder means provided adjacent to each hook member to clamp the elastic band.
The hook member includes a body, a hook extending from the body, and a flexible latch also extending from the body to openably close a space enclosed by the hook and the latch.
Preferably, the body, the hook, and the latch are integral. A pair of bores are formed in the body and communicate with each other by a transverse groove extending therebetween. A retaining means, such as piercers extend from a lateral side wall of the transverse groove in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the bores.
The holder means includes two half portions which are pivotally connected at their first ends thereof. Each half portion has two recesses and a ridge therebetween in which two pegs project upward from the ridge on one half portion and two receiving holes are formed in the ridge on the other half portion. The distal end of half portion has a hooked edge and the distal end of half portion has a corresponding snapping edge so that the two half portions may be releasably engaged together at the edges. Preferably, at least one of the recesses has piercers formed thereon to securely retain the elastic band in position.
In assembling, each end of the elastic band passes through the bores (including the transverse groove) of associated hook member to form two parallel sections and then the holder means is opened to receive two parallel sections of the end of the elastic band adjacent to the hook member.
Thereafter, the holder means is closed by engaging the snapping edge with the hooked edge. When adjustment of the length of the elastic band is required, the user may simply reopen and remove the holder means temporarily and "squeeze" the elastic band at one of the parallel sections thereof to shorten or lengthen the band section between the two hook members. When a desired length is obtained, the user may pull down the other band section and reclamp the elastic band by the holder means adjacent to associated hook members.
Other objects, advantages, and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an elastic band means in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectioned perspective view of a hook member of the elastic band means;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing a holder means of the elastic band means;
Fig. 4 is a schematic perspective view illustrating the adjustment of the length of the elastic band means; and
Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view illustrating the holder means.
Referring to the drawings and initially to Figs. 1 through 3, an elastic band means in accordance with the present invention generally includes an elastic band 20 with two ends, a hook member 10 provided to each end of the elastic band 20, and a holder means 30 provided adjacent to each hook member 10 to clamp the elastic band 20.
As shown in Fig. 2, the hook member 10 includes a body 17, a hook 15 extending from the body 17, and a flexible latch 16 also extending from the body 17 to openably close a space enclosed by the hook 15 and the latch 16. Preferably, the body 17, the hook 15, and the latch 16 are integral. Two substantially parallel bores 11 are formed in the body 17 and communicate with each other by a transverse groove 12 extending therebetween. A retaining means, such as piercers 14 extend from a lateral side wall of the transverse groove 12 in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the bores 11.
As shown in Fig. 3, the holder means 30 includes two half portions 30a and 30b which are pivotally connected at their first ends thereof. Each half portion 30a, 30b has two recesses 31 and a ridge 33 therebetween in which two pegs 34 project upward from ridge 33 on half portion 30a and two receiving holes 35 are formed in ridge 33 on half portion 30b. The distal end of half portion 30a has a hooked edge 37 and the distal end of half portion 30b has a corresponding snapping edge 36 so that the two half portions 30a and 30b may be releasably engaged together at the edges 37 and 36.
Preferably, at least one of the recesses 31 has piercers 32 formed thereon to securely retain the elastic band 20 in position.
In assembling, each end of the elastic band 20 passes through the bores 11 (including the transverse groove 12) of associated hook member 10 to form two parallel sections and then the holder means 30 is opened to receive two parallel sections of the end of the elastic band 20 adjacent to the hook member 10. Thereafter, the holder means 30 is closed by engaging the snapping edge 36 with the hooked edge 37, as shown in Fig. 1. When adjustment of the length of the elastic band is required, the user may simply reopen and remove the holder means 10 temporarily and "squeeze" the elastic band 20 to shorten or lengthen the band section between the two hook members 10. When a desired length is obtained, the user may pull down the other band section and reclamp the elastic band 20 by the holder means 30 adjacent to associated hook members 10.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
