Abstract

The storage rack has a collapsible slotted body hinged at 18 that packs flat without the separation or disconnection of any distinguishable features. When reconfigured the rack has the capacity for storing two sizes of products, the arms 16 both supporting and containing the products involved. The arm supports derive from the main body which consists of four vertical planes which, when configured, form a 'T' construction. When the halves of the dual storage rack are apart, each set of parallelograms work separately moving in unison with the corresponding part of the main body. <IMAGE>

Description

DUAL FUNCTION STORAGE RACK FOR ENTERTAINMENTS MEDIA This invention relates to a dual function storage rack for entertainments media.
Racks are well known storage units which comprise of either an array of slotsshelves or arm supports-guides, incorporated within a free standing structural unit. There are many storage racks in the market place at this present time, most of which are produced using a process of injection moulding. However, there are very few that have the capability to fold flat and also store more than one product. Moreover, many of which cannot easily adapt to embrace other markets, economically. In other words their potential is rather limited.
According to the invention there is provided a dual function storage rack comprising of slots and arm supports deriving from a main body of four vertical planes, that is a free standing structural component incorporated within the structure there is a multiplicity of integral hinge like folds to allow the storage rack to fold flat. This all being created out of one flat sheet of material, simply by making linear cuts and maintaining structural continuity.
A specific embodiment in the invention will now be described by way example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 Shows storage rack in its flat position Figure 2 depicts the stages of movement in plan view Figure 3 Depicts the stages of movement in perspective Figure 4 shows possible variation and exploitation Referring to the drawing, the main body of the rack is divided into four vertical planes. Two inner planes 10 and two outer planes 12. The main body is also subdivided once again horizontally over two adjacent planes.
The two inner planes 10 are brought together by using a central integral hinge 14, running the length of the spine. This is the main axis in which as shown in Fig 2. the storage rack evolves around.
The two outer planes 12 move into a position where they remain in line with one another revealing the main body as shown in fig 2. mimicking a 'T' like construction.
The arm supports 16 are cut out horizontally from the main body but still remain physically connected via integral hinges 18. These are positioned strategically so that a parallelogram is always maintained between the main body and arm supports, when the storage rack is being erected. A set of parallelograms exist, working on each half they enable the arm supports 16 to invert in unison, as shown in fig 3. to create the slots.

Claims (5)

1. A dual function storage rack comprising of slots and arm supports deriving from a main body of four vertical planes1 that is a free standing structural component. Incorporated within the structure, there is a multiplicity of integral hinge like folds which allow the storage rack to fold flat. This all being created out of one flat sheet of material, maintaining structural continuity using a series of linear cuts, none of which extend to the edge of the sheet.
2. The dual storage rack as claimed in claim 1 wherein the dual purpose arm supports allow two products to be stored in an interleaved way.
3. The dual storage rack as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 where in the halves of the main body can move around the central integral hinge, thereby the structure's overall shape and function can be redefined.
4. The dual storage rack as claimed in claim 2 or claim 3 wherein the principle structural configuration is based on a 'T' like construction, where the slots and arm supports may vary in dimension.
5. The dual storage rack substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 - 4 of the accompanying drawing.
