Abstract

A razor 10 comprises a handle 11 and an integral head 12 having at least one curved blade 13 for shaving concave surfaces. The head and handle are connected by a short portion 11a. The whole assembly, with blades encased, may be moulded as a single member. <IMAGE>

Description

A SHAVING RAZOR The present invention relates to a manually operated shaving razor and more particularly to a razor of which the configuration of the cutting edge is arc shaped.
Straight edged manually operated shaving razors are in daily use worldwide and comprise a handle incorporating at one end a fixed or replaceable single or twin straight blade/blades. The razors are predominantly used by men for the removal of facial hairs. However, for want of a more suitable razor, women also make use of the straight edged shaving razor for the removal of unwanted bodily hairs, particularly in the armpit area.
Straight edged manually operated shaving razors are inadequate for shaving the surface area of an inner curved cavity such as that of the armpit. The straight edged blades also do not correspond to the shape of the inner curved cavity of the armpit. Exact blade contact to the skin surface area of the inner curved cavity of the armpit is inadequate, and awkward angles are involved for blade to skin contact.
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a razor comprising a head and a handle, at least one blade of arcuate configuration being nonremovably held within the head, the handle having a longitudinal axis, and the shaving edge of the blade being disposed out of the longitudinal axis and/or a central plane of the blade being disposed at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis.
Preferably a double blade arrangement is provided; alternatively a single blade arrangement, or an arrangement with three or more blades may be provided.
The entire razor may be disposable when the blades become worn; alternatively the blades are mounted in a disposable cartridge removably attached to the rest of the razor. If desired, the blades alone may be arranged to be removable from the head.
According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided an arc shaped manually operated shaving razor, comprising of a handle and incorporating at one end a fixed or replaceable single or twin arc shaped blades.
The configuration of the cutting edge being arc shaped conform to the surface area of the inner curved cavity of the armpit. Blade contact to the skin surface area of the armpit is more accessible, awkward angles need not be applied as the two shapes correspond, thus making removal of unwanted bodily hairs in the armpit area more comfortable and safe.
A preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a front view of an arc shaped shaving razor in accordance with the present invention; Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the razor of Fig.l; Figure 3 shows an enlarged view of the head of the razor; Figure 4 shows a full length side view of the razor: Figure 5 shows a perspective view of one of the blades of the razor; and Figure 6 is a front view of the blades of the razor without their plastics casing.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a disposable razor 10 comprising a handle 11 of plastics material and an integral head 12 encasing two razor blades 13. The blades are of stainless steel and the plastics unit is produced by an injection moulding process.
The blades 13 have an arcuate shape suitable for shaving a concave region, such as underneath the arms. The plane defined by the central axis of each blade 13 is at an acute angle to the major longitudinal axis 20 of the handle 11. The top lla of the handle 11 extends at an angle to the axis 20 so that the shaving edges of the blades 13 are disposed out of the longitudinal axis 20 of the handle.
The above described razor has numerous advantages. The shape of the blades 13 and their orientation and location relative to the handle 11 makes shaving of a concave region extremely easy, comfortable and convenient. The contours of the plastics head portion 12 also contribute to flexibility and comfort.
Various modifications may be made to the above described arrangement. For example there may be only one blade, or there can be three or more parallel blades. The head may be in the form of a disposable cartridge which can be removed from the handle. Alternatively, the blades may be removable from the head.
If desired the plane of the blades may be perpendicular to the major longitudinal axis of the handle and/or may lie on said axis.
