Abstract
A draught excluder 1 comprising a tube composed of cloth and filled with loose granuls. As the excluder 1 is placed in position the granuls fall towards the gap between the door 2 and floor 3. By kneading the excluder 1 into both corners of the recess 4 it is possible to place the excluder 1 on the outside of a door 2. The advantage of placing the excluder 1 on the outside of a door 2 is that the door 2 could be opened and closed without removing the excluder 1. <IMAGE>
Description
PLIABLE DRAUGHT EXCLUDER USING LOOSE POLYSTYRENE GRANUALS
AS A FILLING
This invention relates to a pliable draught excluder using loose polystyrene granuals as a filling
Draught excluders are well known articles, the type in question comprising a tubular shape, composed of cloth and stuffed with woolly like materials. They are placed along the base of a door, inhibiting draught from entering a room through the gap between the door and floor.
Draught excluders of this type however are comparitively inefficient in that they retain their shape when pushed against the base of a door allowing draught to enter the room between the draught excluder and base of the door.
According to the present invention there is provided a pliable draught excluder comprising a tube composed of cloth which is partially filled with loose granuals such as polystyrene or similar material. Both ends of the cloth tube are closed retaining the granuals within the tube. When the excluder is placed in position along the base on either side of the door, the granuals fall towards the gap between the door and floor providing a more efficient seal. If necessary it is possible to radially change the shape of the excluder by kneading the excluder into the corners between the door and door frame, (or corner positioned close to the edge of the door at a right angle to the door) adding to the efficiency of the excluder. If desired, each end of the draught excluder could be stuffed with conventional filling, leaving the loose granuals to occupy the greater central volume within the excluder.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 illustrates in perspective, the pliable draught excluder on the outside of a door. Even though the door is positioned in a recess, the adjustable draught excluder is able to plug the gap between the door and floor, even in the corners of the recess.
Figure 2 shows a cross section of the pliable draught excluder, the loose granuals tend to fall towards the gap between the door and floor achieving a better seal.
Referring to the drawing the pliable draught excluder 1 is placed in the recess 4 between the door 2 and the floor 3.
Though the door 2 is positioned in a recess 4 the draught excluder 1 is able to plug the gap between the door 2 and floor 3, even in the corners of the recess 4.
A cross section view of the pliable draught excluder 1 (see Figure 2 - drawing sheet) indicates how the loose granuals 5 fall towards the gap between the door 2 and floor 3.
Claims (7)
1A pliable draught excluder using loose polystyrene
granuals as a filling comprising an elongated cloth
tube partially filled with loose granuals, the
draught excluder is adjusted by manipulating the
granuals within the excluder, allowing the excluder
to be placed at either side of a door.
2 A pliable draught excluder using loose polystyrene
granuals as a filling as claimed in Claim 1 wherein
the draught excluder could be adjusted for use at the
base of a door, even in the recess on the outside of
a door.
3 A pliable draught excluder using loose polystyrene
granuals as a filling which as claimed in Claim 2
when placed in position on the outside of a door
would allow the door to be opened and closed without
the need to remove the excluder.
4 A pliable draught excluder using loose polystyrene
granuals as a filling in which, when in position, the
loose granuals fall towards the gap between the base
of the door and floor, creating a better seal than a
conventional excluder.
5 A pliable draught excluder using loose polystyrene
granuals as a filling wherein one or both ends of the
excluder, if dersired, could be stuffed with a woolly
like filling, leaving the loose granuals to occupy
the greater central volume within the excluder.
6 A pliable draught excluder using loose polystyrene
granuals as a filling in which the granular particles
absorb more draught than the conventional woolly
filling.
7 A pliable draught excluder using loose polystyrene
granuals as a filling substantially as described
herein with reference to Figures 1-2 of the
accompanying drawings.
