Abstract
The Vehicle Footbrake Anti Theft Device locks the footbrake pedal in the down position by means of pivot arm 2 located in top box 1 which is securely bolted to vehicle steering column support bracket. The pivot arm 2 is locked in position by means of a tumblerlock 4. The pivot arm 2 pivots on pivot pin 10. When pivot arm 2 is lifted up at the front the rear in turn goes down pushing connecting arm 6 and bolt pin 7 on to the depressed foot pedal. The bolt pin 7 is held and guided by two slots either side of the bottom box 3 of which straddles the footbrake and is securely bolted to the vehicle floor and bulkhead. <IMAGE>
Description
VEHICLE FOOTIBRAKE ANTI THEFT DEVICE
This invention relates to a mechanical anti theft device, there are many types of devices to stop unauthorised persons taking a vehicle away such as handbrake, steering locks etc. This device relates to the vehicle footbrake peddle locking it in a down position by means of two box sections joined together via a connecting rod. The top box section of which is securely bolted to the steering column support bracket encases a pivoting arm that can be locked in the up or down position by a tumble lock. The bottom box section of which is securely bolted to the vehicle's floor and bulkhead, fits over the foot brake peddle and houses a bolt pin which slides up and/or down guided by slots in outer casing of bottom box section.
The specific embodiment of this invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

Referring to the drawings, the mechanical brake peddle locking device comprises of two box sections as the main parts of the device. The top box section 1 which is securely bolted to the steering column support bracket of vehicle, incorporates a pivot arm 2, pivoting on pivot pin 10. The pivot arm 2 is locked in either down or up position by a tumble lock 4 of which is protected by cover plate 5. Figure 1 shows pivot arm locked in down position with arm of tumble lock 4 located on block 9. In order to apply pressure to the vehicle brake peddle is via a connecting rod 6 and bolt pin 7, guided by slots in both sides of bottom box section 3, of which is securely bolted to the vehicle floor and bulkhead (see fig 2).
To operate the mechanical device pressure is applied to brake peddle, then lifting the pivot arm 2 which in turn pushes down connecting rod 6 and bolt pin 7 onto brake peddle. Turning key in tumble lock 4 to locate on block 9, remove key leaving brake peddle securely locked down.
To unlock reverse procedure allowing return spring 8 to lift connecting rod 6 and bolt pin 7 clear of brake peddle. Then locking in this position with same tumble lock 4 to ensure that connecting rod 6 and bolt pin 7 cannot accidentally drop down and foul vehicle brake peddle.
Claims (7)
1. The Vehicle Footbrake Anti Theft Device comprising of two box sections and
connecting rod as main parts of device, locks footbrake peddle in the down
position.
2. The Vehicle Footbrake Anti Theft Device as in claim 1, wherein locking
means are provided by a tumble lock, encased in a top box section of which
is securely bolted to vehicle steering column support bracket.
3. The Vehicle Footbrake Anti Theft Device as in claim 1 or claim 2, locking
position of footbrake peddle is by means of a connecting rod securely bolted
to a lockable pivot arm encased in the top box of which is securely bolted
to the vehicle steering column support bracket.
4. The Vehicle Footbrake Anti Theft Device as in claim 3, the vehicle footbrake
peddle is held down by means of a guided bolt pin securely attached to the
bottom end of connecting rod.
5. The Vehicle Footbrake Anti Theft Device as in claim 4, wherein guided
means is provided by slots cut in both sides of bottom box section of which
fits over the vehicle brake peddle and is securely bolted to the vehicle floor
and bulkhead.
6. The Vehicle Footbrake Anti Theft Device as in all preceding claims locks
vehicle brake peddle down therefore inserting pressure on all brake drums
rendering the vehicle immoveable until the key holder decides to unlock the
device with key, provided for tumble lock.
7. The Vehicle Footbrake Anti Theft Device substantially as described herein
with reference to figures 1-4 of accompanying drawings.
