Description
A ROUTED ELECTRICAL ACCESSORY ALARM UNIT.
This invention relates to a routed electrical accessory alarm unit called a hullabaloo alarm box.
Electrical sockets and plugs are well known accessories in the electrical trade and are normally used for connecting an electrical appliance of some kind for use about the house or in an industrial situation. Allways there is a separate socket connected to either the mains electricity or some kind of battery application. On the appliance there is generally a plug which is fitted into the socket to perform a connection so that the appliance can be used with the electrical power flowing through the wires via the socket and plug and the live circuit being initialled L and the neutral circuit being initialled N, the earth circuit being initialled E.
Normally the plugs and sockets are only used for manual operation of appliances and not normally automatic in operation. In the box or case about to be described there is a socket and a plug, generally on opposite sides but this can be altered at will, interconnected inside the box L to
L, N to N and E to E so that a single switch or a bank of lever switches and other switches can be interposed at will to form cut-off switches in this instance one or more and if more with intervening micro switches at will with the lever switches either connected with a metal or plastic bar or as separate entities acting in parallel and the intervening switches being non operational.
These one switch or outer switches are held in a non circuit mode by a rubber band or other expandable substance so that when the band is burnt or the switches operated manually the levers will rise and allow the current (electrical) to flow between the plug and the socket.
If an extension lead can be fitted between the actual mains socket and the alarm box plug and the socket connected to an accessory such as a Television
set, Radio or any noise producing electrical article and the Alarm box placed
near a suspect or logical fire position source and when fire burns the band or
when operated manually the noise producing article will be started and awaken
or alert the occupants.
The television and radio must, of course, be tuned to a suitable station and
be receptive on an all night basis, these switch boxes can be fitted into an
electrical socket itself to prevent a fire starting in the switch socket (mains)
without the accompanying extension leads.
The banks of switches are positioned through an opening situated in the opposite
end face with the levers protruding through the case and positioned as to height
using blocks generally made of wood and modified potting boxes generally stuck
and/or glued in position. The banks of switches are connected together using
screwed rods and nuts.
Tentacled banks of switches can be fitted at will either close or further from
the case as required.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which :
generally of plastic
Figure 1 shows in perspective, the alarm unit box 1 with the switches 5 & 11 in position with the levers in the no-circuit position and the plug 4 and socket 3 on the differing sides.
Figure 2 illustrates the conections and the initialling of the various wires e.g. L, N and E as normal British Standards.
Figure 3 shows an exterior view of the box 1 with lid 2 off and with the rubber band 6 holding the levers and the switches 5 out of circuit.
Figure 4 shows the box 1 with the lid 2 off and the switches 5 in the circuit position.
Referring to the drawing the switch box 1 comprises a box 1 in which on opposing sides, generally, a normal electrical plug 4 and socket 3 are mounted with their
L, N and E terminals connected as normal excepting that the L and N wires are connected through separate lever switches 5 generally set in a potting type box not shown with one end removed and fitted by screw thread & nuts 8 & glued with their levers generally connected by a strip or bar 10, but not necessarily so, generally of metal but these can be of plastic of some kind without deterrent.
The strips or bars 10 would generally be outside the limits of the end side so that a rubber band 6 can be stretched between a pin like piece or screw 7 and the bars 10 of the levers holding switches 5 out of ciruit and also, at the same time the connections between the plug 4 and the socket 3, switch 11 is in circuit continuously. To make the circuit all that is necessary is to physically overcome the tension of the rubber band 6 or similar substance as used, or by the band 6 being burnt. In use the socket 3 is connected to a noise creator such as a television, alarm bell, radio or any noise maker such as an electric drill etc. and the socket 3 is used for the connection of a normal extension lead between the mains supply and the plug 4 on alarm box 1.
When the band 6 burns the mains is connected through the alarm box 1 allowing the noise to operate thereby awakening or alerting the people if they happened to be asleep or making them aware of the fire.
The alarm box 1 can also be turned into a Burglar Alarm by substituting a set of switches 5 on a door or window for the setting off a television set to make the burglars think that there are people about or lights being turned on automatically. Generally there exists a block or another switch 11 inserted between the two switches 5 in the Fire Alarm version.
All screw threads to be locked adhesively or mechanically.
The potting box not shown holding the switches 5 & 11 are generally mounted on a wooden or plastic block 12 to achieve the height necessary for an alignment of the switch banks 5 & 11.
The wires to the switch tays can be soldered cr fitted by spade connections and sleeved by insulated spade sleeves and split if necessary.
Another embodiment of the invention is a case 1 generally of plastic with the same plug 2 and socket 3 fig. 1. on generally opposing sides but a co-axial socket 13 is fitted on the oppsite end face containing the switches 5 & 17 figure 7 & 8.
Figure 5 shows :
The bank of switches 5 & 17 are all lever switches with the outer levers barred with metal or plastic strips 10, metal preferred and the intervening levered switch 17 has the lever bent upward at an angle about 1/8" from the end of the lever and situated underneath the bar of the outer switches a few degrees of uplift is sufficent.
The outer switches 5 have their neutral N and live L wires connected through the switches from the plug 2 to the socket 3. A rubber band 6 also holds the switches 5 & 17 in the no-circuit position. The intervening switch 17 is for the purpose of connecting and storing and discharging an electrical pulse from a pulse generator tag board 14 figure 5 & 6 situated on the block 12 and surrounding the potting box 16 with the lever switches 5 & 17 insitu so that on the release or burning of the rubber band 6 the pulse is discharged to the co-axial socket 13 through the two actions of 1 & 3 and 1 & 2 of the intervening lever switch 17.
The outer switch 5 with secondary live L connection is diverted to the pulse generator tag panel 14 L 1 connection and a wire is taken from the L 1 tag panel 14 to the switch 5 live tag 1 and the switch 5 live tag 2 is taken to the L 2 tag on tag panel 14 for creating the charge and discharge of the pulse capacitor 15 situated on the pulse generator tag panel 14.
The neutral from the pulse generator tag panel 14 is wired to the neutral pin of the co-axial socket 13 and the neutral return from the socket 3 N connection is routed to the neutral tag of the tag panel 14 and the positive pulse is wired to the positive pin of the co-axial socket 13.
A switch can be fitted between the positive wire from the BK tag panel 14 and the positive pin of the co-axial socket 13 if desired. The two outer switches 5 will turn on the television set and radio tuned to an all night station, volumed to requirements, electric drill or other electrical noise producing article.
When the alarm box 1 is set the noise producing articles have their switches on.
Tentacled switch banks 5 & 17 can be fitted at will following the L & N configurations as normal British Standards. All screw threads to be locked adhesively or mechanically.
These embodiments may have the socket 3 fig 1 connected to the alarm box 1 via a typical mounting box not shown generally made of plastic but not necessary so and the plug 4 fig 1 can be separated and the pins inserted through oblong cut-outs sized and a hole for securing the screw into the plug 4 cover, thereby using the cover of the box 1 as the plug 4 base. There is fitted on final assembly a square of insulating material covering all of the tags of the tag panel 14.
The wires to the switch tags can be soldered or fitted by spade connections and sleeved by insulated spade sleeves and split if necessary.
