Abstract
This invention relates to a fibrous mat for electric fumigator having a particular size which contains a high concentration of pyrethroidal insecticide, and the mat is put on an electric heater so that impregnated insecticide may be vaporized to effectively kill not only mosquitos, but also other harmful insects.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Insecticidal mat for electric fumigator
This invention relates to an insecticidal composition for electric fumigator. More particularly, this
relates to a fibrous mat of 1-1.25 m/m in thickness and 5-15 cm2 in surface area containing a high
concentration of insecticide which is obtained by impregnating a mat with a premix composition
comprising pyrethroidal insecticides, stabilizers, colorants and the other necessary in amount of 75-300 mg.
Heretofore, so called mosquito coils have been conventionally used to exterminate mosquitos
mainly at homes. Recently the conventional mosquito coil is improved to be a new device, called electric fumigator, which consists of the combination of an electric heater and a molded fumigant, generally called a mosquito mat, to be put on the heater for vaporizing insecticidal ingredients contained therein.
The special terminologies and the background knowledge related to thereinabove are explained in such literatures as British Patents 1288138 and 1587396 issued to this applicant.
Now, the electric fumigator, represented by the electric mosquito exterminator, is commonly used as well as the mosquito coil and the insecticidal aerosol. However, the electric mat available now aims only at mosquitos as its representative common name indicates.
Lately, in areas of the poultry house, livestock shed, dump disposal, flies are often bred in swarm and fly to residential zone located in the vicinities thereof. Therefore it is desired to apply, on a continuous basis, effective measures to deal with a nuisance caused by not only mosquitos, but also flies and other vermin.
After the studies to satisfy such a requirement, the present inventors have found that a sufficient amount of active ingredients can be vaporized in the air and kept in an effective concentration over a long period of time by means of heating the mat having the above-mentioned features to a temperature between 1 400C and 1 800 C, thereby exterminating the flying insects such as flies, mosquitos, and in addition, the crawling insects and the like such as cockroach, flea, bedbug and other vermin.
The pyrethroidal insecticides as the active ingredients of this invention may, for example, be any of the following compounds:- Common Name Chemical Nomenclature (1) Allenthrins (R,S)-3-allyl-2-methyl-4-oxocyclopent-2-en-1 -yl (1 R,S,)-cis.trans-chrysanthemate (hereinafter described as Pynamin), and its optical or its geometrical isomers, or
mixtures thereof; for instance, (R,S)-3-allyl-2-methyl -4-oxocyclopent-2-en-1 -yl (1 R)-cis.trans-chrysanthemate (hereinafter, Pynamin Forte), (R,S)-3-al lyl-2-methyl-4-oxocyclopent-2-en- 1 -yl (1 R)-trans-chrysanthemate
(hereinafter, BAL), (S)-3-allyl-2-methyl-4-oxocyclopent-2-en-1 -yl (1 R)-trans
chrysanthemate (hereinafter, S-biol), (2) Prallethrins (R,S)-2-methyl-3-(2-propynyl)-4-oxocyclopent-2-en-1 -yl (1 R,S)-cis.trans- chrysanthemate (hereinafter, S--4068), and its optical or its geometrical isomers or mixtures thereof; for instance, (R,S)-2-methyl-3-(2-propynyl)-4-oxocyclopent-2-en- 1 -yl (1 R)-cis-trans- chrysanthemate (hereinafter, S-4068F), (S)-2-methyl-3-(2-propynyi)-4-oxocyclopent-2-en- 1 -yl (1 R)-trans
chrysanthemate (hereinafter, S-4068-d-T), (S)-2-methyl-3-(2-propynyl)-4-oxocyclopent-2-en- 1 -yl (1 R)-cis.trans- chrysanthemate (hereinafter, S-4068SF), (3) Resmethrins 5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl (1 R,S)-cis.trans-chrysanthemate (hereinafter, Chrysron),
and its optical or its geometrical isomers or mixtures thereof; for
instance,
5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl (1 R)-cis.trans-chrysanthemate (hereinafter, Chrysron Forte),
5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl (1 R)-trans-chrysanthemate
(hereinafter, Chrysron-d-T), (4) Others 3-phenoxybenzyl (1 R)-cis-trans-chrysanthemate (hereinafter, Sumithrin), (R,S)-accyano-3-phenoxybenzyl (1 R)-cis.trans-chrysanthemate (hereinafter, S-2703F), (R,S)-3-allyl-2-methyl-4-oxocyclopent-2-en- 1 -yl 2,2,3,3
tetramethylcyclopropanecarboxylate (hereinafter, Knockthrin).
And an appropriate amount of these pyrethroidal insecticides to impregnate is in the range between 60 mg and 1 60 mg per piece of mat. Examples of suitable phenolic stabilizers are, for instance, in the following; 2 ,2'-methylene-bis(6-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol) (hereinafter, described as the stabilizer 1), 2,2'-methylene-bis(6-tert-butyl-4-ethylphenol)
(hereinafter, the stabilizer 11), 4,4'-methylene-bis(2,6-di-tert-butylphenol) (hereinafter, the stabilizer Ill).

(hereinafter, the stabilizer IV),
4,4'-thio-bis(6-tert-butyl-3-methylphenol)
(hereinafter, the stabilizer V).
In addition, colorants; for instance, allylamino anthraquinone, 1 ,4-diisopropylamino anthraquinone, 1 ,4-diamino anthraquinone, 1 4-dibutylamino anthraquinone, 1 -amino-4-anilino anthraquinone, and suitable incense or fragrance and/or additives to lower the viscosity and to ease the impregnation, such as, minor amount of myristic acid isopropyl ester, palmitic acid isopropyl ester, lauryl acid hexyl ester, and other aliphatic acid esters, kerosene and other organic solvents may be added in preparing a premix for a mat.
Then, a fibrous plate of 1-1.25 m/m in thickness and 5-15 cm2 in surface area is impregnated with the premix consisting of the above mentioned components, thereby a mat of this invention is obtained. If necessary, the premix may further be diluted with aliphatic ester, kerosene and the like as mentioned above before the impregnation. The fibrous plate in this invention may, for example, be the cotton lint plate, the plate consisting of the mixture of cotton lint and woodpulp, or any other absorptive plate.
