Abstract
Apparatus for broiling or grilling food comprises a pair of slotted sheet metal members which are inclined upwardly from a horizontally disposed gas burner and evenly distribute the heat therefrom to a food support located on the upper edges of the said members.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Lightweight gas food broiler
The device may comprise a single sheet of steel or similar malleable metal, pierced and folded into such a shape that the flames and ensuing hot gases are spread into an evenly usable pattern for the purpose of food grilling.
The same folding affords a simple central burner both protection from falling fat, and flame stability, by the close proximiityto the gas ports of an integral inverted vee section.
It differs substantiallyfrom other gas barbeque burners in that it does not rely upon the mass of inert materials such as lava rock to evenly disseminate the heat, yet the food does not contact the heat spreading surface as in the plate griddle type appliances.
Acrucial elementofthe heatspreading surface is the way the metal is pierced laterally to provide inverted shallow galleries to retain and guide the heat to the outer edges in regularformation. The piercing is achieved buy a guided chiselling action.
In the embodiment described, this same chiselled piercing is used to produce out of lightweight metal sheet the surface upon which the food is grilled. This is possible as the piercing turns sections of the material through ninety degrees and the combination of adding a significant third dimension, and splitting the sheet surface, produces a rigid structure which shows no inclination to distort under heat variation.
An embodiment is as drafted.
CLAIM
Agas-heated broiler achieving traditional food smoking effect, comprising laterally peculiarly pierced sheet metal to form rigid heat spreading and grilling surfaces of certain inter-surface boundary heat and gas flow resistance.
The sheet metal is pierced so that metal displaced either side of the vent is continuously turned through an angle relative to the parent surface plane.
