Abstract
In a filter installation in which water is squeezed from the filter cake, on the outside of an inward flow filter drum for example, by an endless pressing belt 5, lateral displacement of the cake is prevented by highly compressible side flanges 13. As shown the flange 13 is of foam rubber with an impervious skin, integral with dovetail section 11, 12 whereby the flange is secured to the drum. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Filter installation
The invention relates to a filter installation working a presser belt, where the presser belt is pressed for example by means of presser rolls upon the filter cake seated on the filter medium (see for example
Ger. Pub. Sp. 18 15 072). The presser belts arranged in the region of the drying zone serve to achieve a reduction of the residual moisture of the filter cake by pressure upon the filter cake by reason of the presser rolls, and by reason of the tension and inherent weight of the presser belt.
It is obvious that the presser belt method permits considerable application pressures by reason of the technical possibilities. The disadvantage is the danger that the filter cake, possibly together with the filtered liquid, can escape on the two sides of the presser belt.
The invention is based upon the problem of indicating a side seal which also permits the application of great pressure forces.
According to the invention there is provided a filter installation, especially drum filter, working with a presser belt, where the presser belt is pressed for example by means of presser rolls upon the filter cake seated on the filter medium, characterised in that a highly elastic profile piece which is clamped in a fastening device and laterally limits the filter cake chamber is provided on the filter medium carrier laterally of the filter medium. Thus so to speak a closed filter cake chamber is formed which, in contrast to the sealing of chambers with rigid side walls, is connected with the problem that the pressure belt is intended to deform the filter cake, that is to say reduce its thickness. The proposed profile piece solves this problem.
The profile piece may be made in two pieces and and the part in the region of the filter cake may consist of sponge rubber with a closed outer skin at least on the surface abutting on the filter cake and the part in the region of the filter medium carrier may be of soft rubber.
The profile piece or the part of the profile piece in the region of the filter cake comprises a dovetail or trapezium shape in cross-section.
The profile pieces are developed especially for this purpose, because known and available standard sections are not suitable. Nevertheless the profile piece can easily be produced and stored as goods available by the metre. Moreoverthe material combination is of special importance.
In detail the following advantages are obtained:
Due to the asymmetric (trapezium-shaped, possibly even triangular) cross-sectional form of the profile piece in the region of the filter cake lifting out by the filter cake thrusting to the side (transverse thrust) is effectively prevented. Moreover in comparison with a rectangular or square cross-section, about 1/3 less volume must be displaced, which has a favourable effect upon the life. The sealed outer skin of the profile piece part of sponge rubber, which in the present case is very suitable because it is of optimum mobility (compression for example from 12 mm. to 4 mm. possible) prevents the penetration of the filter cake into the profile piece. The dovetailshaped fastening of the profile piece on the filter medium carrier permits easy fitting and dismantlement, which is of special importance since the profile piece is subject to wear.
The invention will be explained by reference to an example of embodiment illustrated in the drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 shows in diagrammatically simplified form the cross-section through a drum filter with a presser belt and
Figure2 shows a cross-section through the side seal between the drum and the presser belt.
The drum 1, lined with a filter cloth as filter medium, of a drum filter dips into a suspension trough 2. By the known arrangement of filter cells, not shown here however, on rotation of the drum 1 in the direction of the arrow the object is achieved that each filter cell is exposed in the filter zone FZ to a suction pressure whereby filtrate is sucked inwards through the filter cloth, the solid from the suspension settling as filter cake 3 on the filter cloth. In the drying zone TrZ adjoining the filter zone FZ air flows from the exterior inwards through the filter cake 3, before a ventilation of the filter cake 3 takes place in the dead zone (ToZ) from the interior outwards to promote the removal of the filter cake by means of a scraper 4.
Above the drying zone TrZ an endless presser belt 5 is arranged which is guided over rollers 6, 7 and 8.
Here the rollers 6 are guide rollers, the rollers 7 are presser rollers and the roller 8 is a tensioner roller.
The presser rollers 7 exert a pressure upon the presser belt 5 and thus upon the filter cake 3 serving for the better extraction of water from the latter.
After the last presser roller 7 the presser belt detaches itself from the filter cake 3, and may take with it a part of the filter cake 3 which then drops off where the presser belt 5 is reversed by the tensioner roller 8.
Figure 2 shows a detail of the drum 1, namely the right side region of the part (filter medium carrier) carrying the filter cloth. The filter cake 3 lies on the filter cloth, which is not visible here because it lies further to the left, and is pressed from above by the presser belt 5 with the direction of thrust to the right.
Into the drum 1 there is let an annular groove 9 into which the profile piece 10 is fitted with its lower appropriately shaped part 11 of soft rubber. The soft rubber part 11 further has a flat zone 12 which rests flat on this drum region.
Above the soft rubber part 11/12 there is situated, for example vulcanised or stuck thereto, a sponge rubber part 13 of approximately trapezium-shaped (almost triangular) cross-section, with a closed outer skin 14. The larger of the two ends of the trapezium lies against the filter cake 3, so that here the largest cross-section of the sponge rubber part takes up the thrust force of the filter cake 3.
According to choice the outer skin 14 of the part 13 of sponge rubber can be removed on the side remote from the filter cake. This can render possible a better "breathing" (compressibility and return).
