Abstract

A racket comprises a head portion (11), a handle portion (12) and a throat portion (13), wherein along the circumference of the head portion (11) there are provided two rows of string holes (17, 18) for two sets of strings respectively to thread through, to form two layers of striking surface in different tension or mesh. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Racket This invention relates to an improved racket, for use in ball games such as lawn tennis.
It is well known that the striking of the ball is subject to the tension and mesh of the racket in the impact force, return direction, rotating degree (spin) and shock force of the racket. For example, a racket having high tension striking surface is advantageous regarding the impact force but, however, weak in absorbing the shock force. Up to now, the con ventionai racket for tennis, squash or badminton is provided with a row of string holes along the head portion for a string threading through to form a layer of striking surface.
When the string is threaded and fastened, the physical quality thereof is determined and the user is unable to vary the striking surface to contact the approaching ball under different conditions.
This invention provides a racket with two layers of striking surface each of which is different in tension or mesh from the other.
An advantage of this invention is to provide a racket with two layers of striking surface whereby once a layer of striking surface breaks, the other layer thereof is stili of use.
Further features of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description of the preferred embodiments, which is intended to be read with reference to the drawings in which: Figure 1 is a front view of a preferred embodiment of this invention; Figure 2 is a sectional view along A-A line in Fig. 1; Figure 3 is a sectional view along B-B line of Fig. 1; Figure 4 is a perspective view of another preferred embodiment of this invention, partially sectional; Figure 5 is a sectional view along C-C lines in Fig. 4.
As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, a racket 10 of the preferred embodiment according to this invention comprises a head portion 11, a handle portion 12 and a throat portion 13 to connect the head portion 11 and the handle portion 12. The head portion 11, handle portion 12 and throat portion 13 are integrally made with each other.
Along the inner circumference 14 of the head portion 11 there extend axially two flanges 15, 16 which are of the same length and parallel to each other. Respectively on the flanges 15 and 16 are drilled two rows of string holes 17, 18 the axes of which are perpendicular to the striking surface. The string holes 17, 18 are drilled in such a way that any two neighbouring string holes 17, 18 are at a predetermined distance from each other. Two strings 19, 20 may be different in tension from each other whereby the player may alternatively apply the desired striking surface to obtain a better striking effect.
Further, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, a racket 10 of another preferred embodiment according to this invention has the characteristic that along the outer circumference of the head portion there are provided two grooves 33, 34 parallel to each other. Respectively in the grooves 33, 34 there are drilled two sets of string holes 35, 36 the axes of which are parallel to the striking surface. The string holes 35, 36 are drilled in such a way that each neighbouring string holes 35, 36 is at a predetermined distance from each other. Two strings 37, 38 are respectively threaded through string holes 35, 36 to form two layers of striking surface. The distance between neighbouring string holes 35 may be different from that of string holes 36 so that two layers of striking surface are different in mesh.
It is to be noted that the above description is given by way of exampie only and not by way of limitation.
1. An improved racket comprising a head portion, a handle portion and a throat portion to connect said head portion and said handle portion, said head portion being provided with two rows of string holes along the circumference thereof for two strings threading through to form two layers of striking surface.
2. An improved racket according to Claim 1, wherein said head portion is provided with two flanges extending axially along the inner circumference thereof, said two flanges being respectively drilled with two rows of said string holes, the axes of which are perpendicular to said striking surface.
3. An improved racket according to Claim 1, wherein said head portion is provided with two grooves along the outer circumference thereof, said two grooves being respectively drilled with two rows of said string holes the axes of which are parallel to said striking surface.
4. An improved racket according to Claim 2, wherein said two layers of string surface differ from each other in tension.
5. An improved racket according to either one of claims 2 and 3 wherein said two layers of striking surface differ from each other in mesh.
6. An improved racket according to claim 3 wherein said two layers of striking surface differ from each other in tension.
7. An improved racket constructed and arranged substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in a) Figs. 1-3, or b) Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawings.
