Abstract
In the manufacture of multiple layer articles such as collars, cuffs, shirts, neck-bands, fronts, from oversize blanks to be reduced to size by the bleaching operation, a suitable bleach bath is made with 4 to 12 lbs. of 93 per cent sodium peroxide in 100 gallons of water, 1-3 lbs. of 66 DEG B`e sulphuric acid for each pound of sodium peroxide, and about 5 lbs. of 42 DEG B`e. sodium silicate per 100 gallons of bleach liquid as a retarding agent. The bleaching is best carried out at approximately 180 DEG F. for 16 to 20 hours, but the temperature may be from 120 DEG F. to 212 DEG F. The bleaching is preferably done without boiling out or other preliminary treatment.
