Abstract

A flange valve for a liquid dispensing bag has a valve head (2) which seals against the flange seating on the flange body (1). The valve head is held in position by the spring (3) which is in turn retained by the cross piece (4). When pressure is applied on the cross piece the valve head is moved away from the seating thus allowing filling or dispensing. When pressure is removed from the cross piece the spring and internal bag pressure will push the valve back on the seating. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Flange valve The invention relates to a valve to prevent liquids leaking from a liquid dispensing bag during the filling and packing process.
Liquids are now being packed in bags which are contained within boxes and which have a dispensing valve which is held in the bag by a flange.
The method of filling the bag involves a fili- ing nozzle which is inserted in the flange.
When the bag is full the nozzle is removed and a dispensing valve inserted in its' place. If the bag is being filled with a carbonated liquid the pressure created inside the bag will, when the filling nozzle is removed, cause the liquid to spill out.
The device is a valve which forms a seal against the seating on the flange. The valve head has a stem which passes through a cross member which is moulded to the flange.
On top of the stem is a cross piece, this cross piece serves two purposes, one of which is to captivate a spring between the cross piece and the cross member. This spring pulls the valve head against the valve seating on the flange thus preventing the liquid escaping. The second purpose of the cross piece is that the filling nozzle will push against it which will in turn move the valve head away from the valve seating and allow the bag to be filled. When the bag is full the nozzle will be removed and the spring will pull the valve head back into the valve seating thus sealing the bag. The dispensing valve will also when inserted into the flange push the cross member and open the valve to allow the liquid to be dispensed.
A specific embodiment of this invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 shows a rear view of the flange and valve assembly.
Figure 2 shows the flange body (1) with the valve (2) seated against the the flange with the spring (3) being retained by the cross piece. The valve is held against the flange seating. This prevents liquid from leaking through ti7e flange.
Figure 3 shows a front view of the flange and valve assembly.
CLAIM
This device will seal the liquid dispensing bag and prevent spillage during the filling operation.
