Abstract
A shelf kit has a shelf 1. and brackets 3. which fit on wallplates 5. where the shelf can be mounted in a fixed position. The bracket is removable from the wallplate which can be substituted by a rail 6. on which the bracket can be mounted in different positions. The shelf can also be widened by fitting an extension piece 2. on one of its edges 10. and the bracket can be turned through 90 DEG to support a wider shelf. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Adjustable and extendable shelf kits
This invention relates to adjustable wooden shelving.
Wooden shelves are often supplied as a kit, including mounting brackets and wall plates. Once the wallplates are secured to the wall, and the brackets secured to the wallplates, the shelves can not be re-positioned without demounting the wallplate. There is presently no compatability of application between shelving kits and adjustable or extendable shelving systems.
An extension of a shelving kit to enable its use extended in width, or so that it can easily be re-positioned at different heights, increases the usefulness of the shelf.
According to the present invention, there is provided a shelf which accepts an extension piece or pieces so that its width can be increased, and a bracket which fits into either a single position wall plate, or a rail on which multiple re-positioning of the level of the shelf is easily effected.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing Figure 1. in which the identifying numbers refer to the following parts:
1. Shelf
2. Extension piece
3. Shelf bracket
4. Dowel fitted at angle on edge of bracket
5. Single position wallplate
6. Rail with holes for multiple repositioning
7. Bracket fitted to wallplate
8. Position of angulated holes in wallplates and brackets
9. Angulated holes drilled in rail to receive dowel from bracket
10. Line of joint between shelf and extension.
Referring to the drawing, a shelf kit comprises a shelf, 1, a pair of brackets 3, and a pair of wallplates 5. In order to fit the bracket to the wallplate, the dowel 4. which fits into the bracket is slotted into the reciprocally drilled hole in the wallplate. In this construction, the position of the shelf can only be moved by re-positioning the wallplate. But if the wall plate is discarded, the rail 6. can be substituted, and the bracket 3. can then be attached by the dowel 4. to any of the positions defined by the angulated holes 9. in the rail 6. Repositioning of the bracket is simply accomplished by lifting it off one position and slotting it into another. To enable an increase of the width of the shelf 1., the edge has been pre-drilled with holes, as has the edge of the shelf support 2.
The holes are connected with dowels, and the two parts pushed together to form one surface. Increased support for the extended shelf is obtained from inverting the bracket so that the longer area fits under the shelf, and the shorter area fits on to the wall plate or rail.
1. A shelf kit comprising a shelf and a pair of brackets and wall plates, the brackets having compatible fitting to attach to either the wallplates, comprising part of the kit, or to rails orwallplates which are not part of the kit;
2. A shelf, supplied either as part of a shelf kit, or as a shelf only, where the width of the shelf is extended by fitting one or more extension pieces on the edge or edges of the shelf;
3. An extension piece to a shelf prepared on one or more edges to fit with dowels, or by any other joint, onto the edge of a shelf, or as part of a multiple extension to a shelf;
4. A shelf bracket, with two straight edges of different lengths, prepared to accept compatible fittings for single position wallplates, or multiple position wallrails, so that shelves of different widths can be supported by the same bracket mounted in different positions;
5. A wallplate which fits onto a vertical surface prepared to accept an attachment from a shelf bracket in a single position by receiving an angulated dowel into a reciprocally drilled hole;
6. A wooden rail prepared to accept attachment in different positions from angulated dowels on shelf brackets, into reciprocally drilled multi-position holes from which rail brackets can be freely removed and repositioned.

2. Extension piece
3. Shelf bracket
4. Dowel fitted at angle on edge of bracket
5. Single position wallplate
6. A wooden rail prepared to accept attachment in different positions from angulated dowels on shelf brackets, into reciprocally drilled multi-position holes from which rail brackets can be freely removed and repositioned.
1. A shelf kit comprising a shelf and a pair of brackets and wall plates, the brackets having compatible fitting to attach to either the wallplates, comprising part of the kit, or to rails orwallplates which are not part of the kit;
2. A shelf, supplied either as part of a shelf kit, or as a shelf only, where the width of the shelf is extended by fitting one or more extension pieces on the edge or edges of the shelf;
3. An extension piece to a shelf prepared on one or more edges to fit with dowels, or by any other joint, onto the edge of a shelf, or as part of a multiple extension to a shelf;
4. A shelf bracket, with two straight edges of different lengths, prepared to accept compatible fittings for single position wallplates, or multiple position wallrails, so that shelves of different widths can be supported by the same bracket mounted in different positions;
5. A wallplate which fits onto a vertical surface prepared to accept an attachment from a shelf bracket in a single position by receiving an angulated dowel into a reciprocally drilled hole;
