Abstract

A snap-fit closure comprises a crown 11 and a depending skirt 12 having on an integral surface, an inwardly projecting circumferential bead 13 and an integral sealing ring 15 juxtaposed the crown and adapted to co-operate with the rim 22 of a container neck 20. The closure is formed of a resilient elastic material and the spacing between the plane of the bead and the plane of contact of the container rim with the sealing ring 15 is such that on application of the closure to the container using a pressure member (30), Figure 1 (not shown) the skirt is stretched axially of the closure to effect interengagement between the bead 13 on the skirt with the projection 23 on the container neck, whereby the sealing ring 15 is maintained in compression due to the elasticity of the skirt. The bead 17 may be apertured to permit the pressure of any contents to act on the back of the sealing ring 15, increasing the sealing effect. <IMAGE>
