Abstract
201,874. Columbus Dental Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Shaw, E. P., and Robinson, R. M.). Aug. 3, 1922, [Convention date]. Teeth, artificial.-An artificial tooth adapted to be supported by a bridge or plate has a root 4 adapted to fit into a tooth socket and is cut away on the lingual side along two planes 1, 2, Fig. 1, meeting at an angle, one 2 of the planes having a slot 5 under cut in the form of a hole 6 parallel with the plane for.the reception of a rib 9, Fig. 2, and a post 10 on a metallic backing plate 7 carrying a masticating or incising portion. The post may be extended as shown at 10<a> beyond the rib to fit in a recess 6<a>. The angle between the plane surfaces is preferably obtuse, the plane 2 extending from about the line of the gum on the labial side. The post may be tapered or may be provided with a tenon extending beyond the rib. The tooth may be made by mounting a lingual part 3, Fig. 9, on the part 7 of the backing and cutting or grinding a plane surface in continuation of the surface 8. A labial part 1<a> is then applied to the part 3 and to the surface 8, and the parts may be held in place by the application of wax at the place 4 where, in the finished tooth, the root is indicated. The joint at the surface 11 may be facilitated by cutting in the sides notches which are filled with a mix of porcelain, and the assembly is baked. A mix of porcelain is then applied at the top 4 of the parts 1<a>, 3 and the tooth again baked.
