Abstract

An invalid chair has a seat divided into a central saddle portion (11b) and a leg supporting portion (12a). The saddle portion (11b) is rigidly connected with a backrest (13) having two arm rests (14, 15). The leg supporting portion (12a) is pivotally connected at its front edge to a base frame (28, 29) of the chair and at its rear edge to parts rigid with the backrest (13), and a linkage 34, 38 is provided so that when the seat is raised by a power-operated mechanism (18, 18a, 19), the saddle portion (11b) is separated from the leg supporting portion (12a) and lifts a person sitting on the saddle portion (11b) with his hands on the armrests (14, 15) until the legs of the person are substantially straightened as the person's feet remain resting on the ground. <IMAGE>
