Abstract

In a method of determining the weight of material charged into or discharged from a hopper 1 in a period of time during which material is discharging from the hopper at a substantially constant rate and during which period of time at least one quantity of material is added in bulk to the hopper, load cell means 2 are used to supply a continuous electrical signal representative of the weight of the hopper and its contents and computing means 8 employ this signal to determine the quantity of material introduced into or discharged from the hopper but during the or each time interval when material is added in bulk to the hopper, the signal from the load cell is unreliable and the computing means employs a second signal which is dependent upon the rate of discharge immediately before or after said time interval. <IMAGE>
